In terms of overall quality and sound is there a better brand? I am looking at the 2.1 Cinemate II speakers to get for my HDTV as I don't feel like doing all the wiring for a 5 speaker system around the room. The set does cost 600, but everyone I have talked to says no other brand even comes close for home theatre.

Yes, Bose is not a good brand. I mean, they make decent things but are way, way, way overpriced for what you get.

The problem is most people buy what they're sold.....not what they need. That's the Bose marketing plan, and it works like a charm for them. I've sold all kinds of home theater speakers in the past and Bose is a great speaker for the money, I wouldn't tell you to buy something else, as I think they are very fairly priced. HOWEVER...there are other brands that are just as good, if not better...if you're willing to take some time and get the product that is best for you. Bose makes a very good speaker system and it's versatile, meaning any dummy can hook up the wires and it will sound good, but at a pretty substantial cost. If it was me, I'd buy JBL. Very good quality and reasonably priced. I sold and installed home theater systems....the problem is that you really need to design your speaker system to the listening area, you can't just go "buy some speakers" and expect to get top quality sound, unless you buy Bose....they are designed to work anywhere. There are a lot of brands that sound just as good, but you need to talk to someone who knows what they're doing. If you're serious, stay away from the chain stores....the guys working there have no more knowledge of speaker systems than my sister....ZERO!!!

Pay a couple more dollars, go to a "stereo store" and get what you need, not what the chain stores want to sell you, you'll be much happier in the long run.

To say Bose sucks though is absolutely false, or else you're just exaggerating. Bose doesn't suck at all, some of their products are incredible. Overpriced is a different argument, but you can't blame them for brilliance in marketing. They're also a leading innovator in the field, so in some cases they may not make the best product--but they developed it the idea.

Depending on what you want though, Bose usually isn't the best on the market.

I did sit in on a Bose demo show in one of their stores once. I discovered the "hidden" speakers (aka the extra ones in the room that they don't want you to think are there) so quickly I was almost shocked. The guy wasn't happy when I pointed them out to everyone. LOL

As well as Velodyne, Infinity actually makes a great sounding speaker, as so does polk. MB Quart makes a great sounding speaker, when it comes to a floor speaker that produces bass, you cannot beat Cerwin Vega. Home theater bass is still owned by Yamaha. Bose=money. They make a good speaker, but they are WAY behind the curve. Bose still uses paper coned woofers and cloth surround. DO NOT get any moisture on or around these (including humidity) or they will warp and crack. Bose is for the rich person that can afford to replace them once they destroy them.

For actual stereo componets (ie. receiver, amp, equalizer) I will absolutely agree with you hands down. Speaker-wise, they are much better out there for the outrageous price. Pair up Harmon Kardon componets with Velodyne floor speakers and you have one kick-ass sound. You cannot get much clean, crystal clear sound.

My use of the words sucks is more towards their marketing and that being the reason they are so absurdly over priced.

I would also say that Monster Cables suck, when the actual cables themselves are just fine.

My bose Ipod dock is the best thing i ever bought....it bangs as loud as a whole stereo system and has very little distortion.

I also have two four inch bose speakers in my front doors of my car and i rate them 10/10

Bose is horrid, over priced, over engineered. Bose just doesn't sound like anything really good. i spent half the money on my definitive technologies speakers and i guarantee they sound a hell of a lot better than anything Bose has ever made

Bose is completely average, but their pricing is retarded.

I do however prefer their headphones to anything out there right now.

Bose is overrated and overpriced...Wonderful job of marketing, though...

As somebody already mentioned....avsforum.com /the end

Klipsch, and many other brands not as well known as Bose are a better value...

I have the Bose 3-2-1 system and it bumps perfectly for the house. Swindled the dude at Best Buy to let the floor model go for 400 bucks.
