Disclaimer: I have my own original thoughts for the paper I'm not trying to have you guys write it for me haha.

Alright so the topic is that science does not make any progress, at all. Not one bit. Science is pointless and just goes in circles, etc etc. Technology does make progress, but science doesn't. Technology and science are two separate entities.

What I'd like for someone to do is tell me why thats wrong. I want to see how strong my argument is.

Thanks, bitches.

I don't really agree with the topic anyway, thats just the crap they told me to write about. So I'd appreciate the help.

Scientific discoveries are what make technological advances possible.

Science makes all the progress...if you don't believe me, ask yourself one question,

"Fucking magnets, how do they work?"

Obviously thats the most logical argument, and why I made the thread because I'm stuck on that.

I forget the professors wording on it but when that was brought up in class he rambled on about how the author doesn't think thats the case.

Thomas Kuhn. Thats code for communist.

If I didn't care about my grade/had a better grade already in the class I'd write how ICP proves him wrong.

Discovering new cures for diseases from scientific research is completely worthless, I agree with your prof.

Being someone that works in the medical device industry, I strongly disagree that science does not make progress. I think the general consensus is that technology makes progress because we create the technology, whereas, science is waiting to be found as all science already exists, you just need the right people that have the ability to figure it out. Mankind has slowly uncovered scientific information that has increased our odds to beat infections, prevent cancer, etc. Science advances as we discover what already exists and we learn how to apply it to specific situations. I truly believe cures for cancer, AIDS, etc. are out there, we just have not been able to discover it.

Alot of science comes by mistake too. The guy that discovered the polio vaccine, Jonas Salk, was doing something with the pasteurization process of milk I believe (it has been a while). This is why alot of people think that science is pure luck, which it can be, but alot of highly intelligent sceintisits would disagree because discovering doesn't mean shit if you don't know how to apply it to reap it's benefits.

OK, I need to stop before I write this paper for you. Those are some quick thoughts though.

Haha you weren't writing my paper for me, you were ripping apart what I wrote. I have to take the opposite side.

You made some great points though, thanks for the input!

The enlightenment of man through self discovery is what fuels progress. Technology is a result of that enlightenment wanting a better/easier/more convenient life for all mankind that makes progress possible. Science discovers past trends whereas technology discovers the future.

Without science, there wouldn't be technology. It took science to make technology(as has been stated).
Science is the thought. The scientific method is the process. Science was born of people asking why or how.
How can we make moving these rocks easier? Hypothesis: we can put them in a big box and move the box. Experiment: It helps but it takes many people to carry the big box full of rocks. How can we make moving this big box of rocks easier? Hypothesis: we can try getting putting these round things. Experiment: wheels are created.

That's science. Science is thought. Technology is the result of thought.

For us to challenge you argument we have to see it. That would be the best way for us to really critique it.

what about the whole caffeine and your heart thing - one year its horrible for you, then they discover a reason why its good, year after that the opposite happens...
