I wonder what it would cost to build Fawcett Stadium from scratch today?

Absolutely amazing. Just saw this on Yahoo's front page. Wow.

I think the best part about it(other than the obvious) is that the bond gives "nearly as much money for a state-of-the-art auditorium for performing arts."

There's no school in Ohio that would pass a $119 Million dollar bond like these guys did.

Who am I kidding, there's no school in Ohio that will pass a school issue for $1.19 anymore.

You get what you pay for.

They lost to Southlake Carroll in 2 O.T. by a point in front of 40,000 fans last season.

I lived in Texas for a while, and I know some of these school districts have more money than they know what to do with. It doesn't surprise me in the least that a big school district like that would spend that much money on a stadium and auditorium.

Don't start this again. Massillon won 22 state championships the only way they could back in the day. They have a very proud program and I'm just happy that they and my boys from Big Red are playing each other again.

GO TIGERS!!! (Except October 8)

In terms of high school football, Texas is like Ohio but with money. There are some HUGE school districts there. Some of them are in very well-to-do areas.

On the other hand, the best stadiums in Ohio (e.g., Fawcett in Canton, PBTS in Massillon, and Harding in Steubenville) were all built in the 1930's. I doubt if any of these communities could afford to build new stadiums today that would match what they already have.

It doesnt really matter where you play, it's HOW you play.

Does it really matter if they are 5-5 or 6-4 every year? (I don't know anything about their program)

The article mentions that the school has 3900! students in grades 10-12. And it's the only school in the entire district. That's unreal.

Texas has a lot of the consolidated school districts, where a bunch of towns build 1 gargantuan school and basically pool their resources. Makes for some big schools/facilities, but you lose that sense of identity/community.

I can see that (consolidation) being a viable option in Ohio. Reduce buildings, pool resources, take burden off the homeowner.

Not now, but they could have forced consolidation when they gave away tobacco money for new schools. Bad planning on the states part.
