Just when I thought the right-wingers couldn't be bigger assholes, Huckabee came out with this yesterday:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100413/ap_on_el_pr/us_huckabee_gay_marriage

I can't believe this turd is comparing the relationship between two loving people with drug abuse and incest.

This is why gay people like me get upset.

"Right-wingers" don't have a corner on being assholes. With morons like Barney Frank in office, assholes abound on both sides of the aisle no?

True. That's only the case if gay first cousins swap K-Y.

Yeah, don't group us all in. I'd have to be considered a right-winger, and I absolutely disagree with what he has to say on the issue. I know plenty of other conservatives who feel the same way--I feel like it's not a matter of the government, aside from the fact that I really just don't have an issue with homosexuals.

Huckabee has always been a little douche bag.

Well, this guy is a right-winger. You don't hear left-wingers saying things like this about us.

The thing that really scares me is that this jerk is planning to run for president in 2012. I can only imagine what will happen if he gets in.

I can't read.

Touche.

You are right, there are assholes on both sides.

I don't disagree but he has a right to his opinion no matter how absurd it may seem. He also has a right to express that opinion in this country...at least at the moment.

It appears you didn't read the article. He did NOT compare gay marriage to drug abuse and incest. He said that, "not every group's interests deserve to be accommodated..." He went on to say, "That would be like saying, well there's a lot of people who like to use drugs so let's go ahead and accommodate those who want to use drugs. There are some people who believe in incest, so we should accommodate them. There are people who believe in polygamy, should we accommodate them?"

In other words, just because someone is leading a particular lifestyle does not mean that government must accomodate them.

Personally, I think he made a poor analogy, but it is not a crime to not support gay marriage...yet anyways.

If you don't like what he stands for then don't vote for him but the right to freedom of speech "swings both ways" -pun intended.

And as already pointed out, there are plenty of "assholes" on both ends of the political spectrum.

matdad presents some good points. I suppose I should have read the article. lol

I could see that, bad analogy, he probably wasn't really comparing them. Just a poor choice of words, he isn't the first politician and won't be the last to be guilty of that. Either way, he's still a doucher.

LOL give him a friggin' break. I'm 100% certain he had nothing even remotely close to that in mind when he said that.

It hasn't been that many years ago that gays were rounded up and thrown in jail in this country. That's how the modern gay movement got started. Back in 1969 the patrons of a gay bar in NY got tired of being arrested so they fought back.

But you don't honestly think Huckabee is going to round gays up and throw them in prison.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you were speaking more on terms of your fight for rights being knocked down a few rungs and going backwards.

No, I really don't think the Republicans could throw us in prison again.

But you're right-- we want our human rights and we will continue to fight to keep what we've got.

Taking things out of context and misrepresenting them doesn't help maintain anyones human rights.

Fighting against blatant efforts to take away anyone's rights not just your own increases the likely hood that ones own rights will be protected. If you truly want to assist the gay and lesbian community I might suggest helping stop the requirement of State sanctioned marriages for ALL PEOPLE. I'll stand side by side with you and fight that.

Do you make a post a day complaining about something with gays? It is getting really old. Btw, marriage isn't a human right, so what human right don't you have? In the article, he didn't compare gays to the other things, just sued them as examples of other groups that don't need to be accommodated.

When a presidential hopeful makes a comment like this, it is worth posting on a political blog.

I agree. It's worth posting but to suggest it's something other than what it was intended in it's context is irresponsible ...if you were intentionally doing so. I don't believe you were intentionally misrepresenting it. I believe you truly thought what you posted FWIW.

This is the bottom line.

The media runs with stories like this to PAINT ALL CONSERVATIVES WITH ONE BIG STROKE.

There's a method to that madness, and people like Fairwood fall for it hook, line and sinker.

Instead of giving people credit for making their own decisions and even considering that there are millions of conservatives who disagree with Huckabee, he goes along with the media "spin" and lumps us all together.

I'm sure you hate it when people lump the acts of all gays to those who do or say something stupid or outrageous -- well the same rule applies here.

When you see stories like this, remember the media bias that is spawning it -- and the attempts being made to paint an entire group/movement as racists, bigots, homophobes, etc. so it will lose credibility.

They are counting on liberals and others acting like sheep and simply nodding their heads, instead of thinking for themselves.

I think they run stories like that because they are stories.

Are you trying to say that if Obama said this it wouldn't be in the news?

I only read the article posted, but how exactly is this story being spun to paint conservatives with "one big stroke?"

Seemed like it nailed Huckabee and Huckabee only.
