On nice warm sunny days I tie my dog (4-1/2 year old male Boxer) on his run in the front yard for a few hours. He enjoys laying in sun and running around.

My neigbors across the street and to the left have a company do their yard work. That grounds crew is all white. My dog lays there and watches them work all day. No problem.

My neighbors across the street to the right have a new grounds keeping crew there today. All the workers are Hispanic. My dog will not stop barking at them, and trying to get off his lead to go after them. I finaly had to bring him inside.

So my question is this...is this just coincidence, or is it that he doesn't understand what they might be saying, or is there some other logical reason this is going on?

Your dog is probably just used to the old workers. These workers, you said, are new and so therefore he don't like'em.

Dogs have a very keen sense of smell, could it be that the Hispanics have a different odor than the white guys ?

Here is a test for your dog:

Have your dog fenced up whit a bunch of other male dogs. If you see them humping each other

They're GAY. I don't have a test to see if its racist.

Back around 1990 I was hanging out at the Teays Valley Fire Department in West Virginia where my uncle is a firefighter.

There were 1-2 black members and one day there were about 20 firefighters/friends hanging out and one of them had their dog there that would shake hands/paws with everybody as they came up.

So 7-8 people walk up and shake hands/paws with the dog and everything is fine until the black guy walked up and stuck his hand out for a shake.

The dog started growling like it was gonna attack him so he decided to move along and the dog immediately calmed down to shake the next guys hand so they went through the cycle again and the black guy eventually came back up to the dog.

Same result.

Animals are more in tune with certain things than we are.

My friend has a cat that absolutely hates me. He'd run from 30 feet away to attack me, then sit and snarl and swipe at me. Then I read something that apparently cats can have extreme reactions to men with dark facial hair; I trimmed most of it off, and suddenly the cat doesn't seem to mind me too much.

A dog or cat isn't racist, per se, but can be agitated by certain things that we'd never think of.

I had a fireworks tent back in 2003 and one of my friends brought a friend by that another friends pitbull had some major beef with for no reason.

He had some weird facial hair and curly headed, the dog wanted to kill him.

I had a buddy whose older sister brought two black friends home from college. His dobermans, normally well behaved around strangers, went absolutely ape shit when they saw these girls.

My dog was never a fan of black kids walking by our duplex on their way home from school. He'd bark at them through the window all the time.

My dogs go bezerk when black people come near them. And also large white people, like over 6'4" tall and near 300 lbs. It also happens when you are wearing black and taunt them. My 80 year old father, not exactly the biggest fan of blacks, loves it... lol

That's what it is. The dogs are used to the lack of dark shades in the white peoples case and the lack of white in the black owners case. My dog is impartial because I'm black and my fiance is white. But when I was a kid my parents dog hated white people my friends called him psycho.

I think it is how they are raised and by whom, which determines their views toward darker shades of people. Victims of their environment, if you will.

My best friend in hs was black, well he still is! But when I went to his house his dog would go balistic.

I think it's a matter of some dogs just being used to certain looks of humans. I'm pretty sure dogs are color blind, so they would only see us in black and white..which would make a difference.

The dog in question here is used to many people coming in and out of the house he lines in. People both white and black come and go around here.

I guess that is what puzzles me. If dogs cab only see black nd white why go so crazy over people who are in between? Remember we also have two girls we adopted from Korea who live here so that takes the tan argument out of play.
