I knew Steinbrenner was an OSU fan, but a coach?

"Jeter told Steinbrenner that he had to take off his Ohio State ring now, but The Boss just pointed at him and said "Michigan." Steinbrenner did his post-graduate work at Ohio State and was an assistant on their 1954 National Championship team. Jeter grew up in Kalamazoo and considered going to the University of Michigan before the Yankees drafted him in 1992. The two Big 10 schools have a long-standing football rivalry."

PS, this is applicable several forums (College Football, Pro Sports, General), so I put it in here ...

He also coached at Northwestern and Purdue -
"Steinbrenner served as an assistant football coach at Northwestern University from 1955 to 56, and at Purdue University from 1956 to 57." - Wikipedia

He also wanted to buy the Indians but was rejected. Too bad for Indians fans.

yes he was. His wife went to Ohio State, and there's a long standing tradition of generous giving to the University by him as well
