On a scale of 1-10, how organized are you? I go to get something out of my wife's purse this morning and it is RIDICULOUS! She's got cash in 3 different spots, papers, tissues, napkins, receipts. I don't get how she can find anything. Me, on the other hand... I have to have a spot for everything. I'm not the cleanest person out there, but I take pride in how tidy I am.

Scale of 1-10, I'd say I'm an 8.

It depends. With my office I'm probably an 8. My office is seen by other people and there are certain things I need to be able to access quickly so it has to be neat and organized. In my apartment I'm probably a 3. Since I'm the only one who lives there and since I know where everything is, I don't see the need for a ton of organization.

I'm betting your wife knows exactly what is in her purse and where it's at. At least until you started nosing around in it. ;) My purse is the same way but I consider myself a mostly organized person. If my husband needs something from my purse, he brings it to me.

Probably a one at work. I currently have five coffee cups on my desk, and no less than 4 stacks of paper w/ probably ~2000-3000 pages each (dating back more than a year at the bottom of the piles).

You have to remember that everyone's definition of organized is different. Your wife probably knows exactly where everything is in her purse and can access it quickly and easily, so to her, it's organized. Personally, I think in order to be defined as organized, not only does the person who's space/purse/life/etc it is need to know where things are and how to easily access them, but I think that it needs to be set up in a way that an outsider could find it easily. For instance, saying that it's in the front pocket, or being able to tell them the folder there looking for is in the third drawer down and they can find it easily even though they've never gotten anything from your filing cabinet before because all of the files are in alphabetical order. I think true organization means that someone else could come in, find things, and figure out the system pretty easily.

I taught an "organization of information" class while in graduate school...so i guess i'm pretty organized.

Being in my line of work for over 40 years, I used to be very well organized. I can still be well organized if I choose to be, but sometimes I just don't care.
