Carrey would make a MUCH better Gilligan than Skipper. Terrible choice for Skipper. Richard Gere or George Clooney could pull-off a good Mr. Howell, Elliot Gould would be even better.

Can't wait to see Hayden in the Daisy Dukes....

Cera is Bob Denver reincarnated. I agree Jim C. as Skipper is a fail. If you go on a physical appearance an actor like Philip Seymour Hoffman would make sense. Of course, PSH would never do a flick like this. Goodman makes a lot of sense as well-- and he has already done works like this.

Except that she's not a Ginger! Are they really going to dye her hair red!? That would look unbelievably stupid. John Goodman would be a much better skipper than Jim Carrey would.

I'll be glad to see Michael Cera in a slightly different role. I can only see him try and lose his virginity so many times.

Do you have a link to any of this info, btw?

Gilligan was what I would call asexual. I remember quite a few episodes where Ginger or Mary Ann would try and seduce him, only for Gilligan to faint or something stupid like that. Of course, this does not mean that is what they would do in the movie. For instance, in the Dukes of Hazzard movie they had Uncle Jesse as a foul-mouthed pot smoker.

Yeah that is exactly what I was thinking earlier but I figured someone would label me a racist so I didn't post it.

But I don't think Ginger being white was critical to the character. Ginger was a voluptuous sexpot tease and B-actress...I think Beyonce can pull it off well.

Cast seems weak to me especially the Ginger choices.

Sometimes it's just not possible to recreate a TV show of yesteryear. The original show was so special that we should just let it be. I'm not opposed to doing it in some cases but Bob Denver will always be Gilligan and the rest of the cast was perfect as well. The remakes of movies generally don't do as well as the first edition and I'm afraid that this would definitely happen in the case of Gilligan's Island.

I second the comment about Hayden in the daisy dukes.....lol

That being said, this move is sure to be a flop.....even with the current stars as the characters it doesn't make up for the fact that most people under 30 (which is the target audience for movies these days) have never seen Gilligans Island....at least not more than a couple times.

One thing this movie is destined to do is to ruin a quality of the show that make it likable. Namely, they will make characters we all loved and make them not likable in some way. For instance, a quality of Gilligan was his innocence and his naivity. I am only going to guess the remake will have Gilligan either geting laid or peeping on Ginger/Mary Ann taking a shower. The Skipper was a big teddy bear type persona. I am guessing they are going to make him an a-hole. The Howell's, while wealthy and at times shallow, were still funny and likable. My guess is they will be portrayed as rich a-holes who came across their money by some shady means.

The movie people did this with the remake of the Dukes of Hazzard a few years ago. I don't want to watch them do it to another show I loved as a kid.

Well, in my gambling opinion (which is hit and miss), we won't have to worry about it, I see this going the way of the "Dallas" movie 'with John Travolta and Jennifer Lopez' as in there won't be a shootable script. But I suppose we'll see.
