This is from another site:

"California University (PA): Walt Harris will be joining the California University staff as offensive quality control. Harris is the former head coach at Pitt and Stanford. He coached the quarterbacks at Akron University last season."

I thought he had quality runs at both Pitt and Stanford. Pitt more so, Stanford fell off at the end. Then Akron as a QB coach and now a D-II as quality control?

Edit: I looked up Stanford, 5-6 and 1-11. I guess not so good out there, lol. He was 52-44 with 6 bowl games including his last 5 in a row at Pitt.

Remember the idiots who wanted Harris when Ohio State hired Tressel. A perfect example of the Peter Principle. Decent assistant coach, not a head coach

The guy is MUCH better then "decent" as an asst. coach. He knows QB's and knows how to develop them. Certainly not a great head coach. But he did OK at Pitt. That program was shitty for a long while when he took over.
I'd take him in a heart beat at OSU as off. coordinator or QB coach.

He is not a HC. He is the Offensive Quality Control coach.

As mentioned, not head coach.

But did you ever think, that maybe he is doing this by his own choice? Maybe he has had his fill of big time pressure and just wants to do what he enjoys doing without the pressures...just coach. I know quite a few coaches who have done this late in their careers at different levels of course. Really think some of you are reading way too much into this.

I will admit that I did not think of that. Had he stepped back to this position, I may have. The fact that he had already stepped back to QB coach at a MAC school from HC at a Big East and then PAC-10 school makes me think he may not have had control over this.

I don't personally know him. I met him once at a convention, but would never claim to know him more than that. I also know coaches who took a step back in different ways to ease stress, pressure, time, etc. This just looked different to me. I wish him the best, as I do for anyone in the coaching profession and hopefully he did have the say in this.
