1) New York Yankees - $7,000,000
2) Real Madrid - $6,333, 591
3) Barcelona - $6,082,940
4) Chelsea - $5,361,957
5) Dallas Mavericks - $5,315,097
6) Los Angeles Lakers - $5,098,920
7) Detroit Pistons - $4,995,573
8) Cleveland Cavaliers - $4.940,707
9) Boston Celtics - $4,885,055
10) New York Knicks - $4,881,952
I was actually surprised to see so many NBA teams dominate this list, not surprised to see 3 international soccer clubs (thought there would be more), and obviously not surprised to see the Yankees as #1.
This is based on average annual salary.

It's no surprise to see 6 NBA teams on this list at all. The owners are out of control with their spending and they don't know how to value talent on the open market. watch this summer, there are nine teams available to give someone a max contract, but of the free agents only 5 or 6 are worthy of max contracts. The end result is that some teams with the cap space will sign guys like Rudy Gay, David Lee or Manu Ginobili to max contracts. That's way too much for Gay or Lee and for Ginobili if you sign him to a long term contract he will fall off a cliff in production before the contract is out.

Right, plus the huge roster size brings down the annual salary when you have a bunch of guys not making as much.

Gay and Lee will get big pay days, but they won't get max deals. Teams will overpay them though.

Well, I'd agree except only 2 of those NBA teams have a losing record, so they must be doing somehting right. It's no secret Boston sold out everything to win the title in 2008..3reppom wrote: It's no surprise to see 6 NBA teams on this list at all. The Lakers have Pau Gasol/Kobe/Odom, so it's no surprise that they are on the list.. Ditto with the Cavs who have Shaq/Jamison/Lebron, etc.. and Dallas with Dirk, Butler, Terry, Marion..
The Knicks probably weren't up there until they acquired T-Mac..
The Pistons... Well, yeah, they're idiots. All that money and no real #1 talent.

Good point. I was thinking those teams in dept that sol their top players for a bunch of money unloaded their salary, but in reality the players who replaced them actually had big salaries also just didnt cost much to buy.LTrain23 wrote:Yeah, but again, this isn't about the teams actual net worth, it's about the average annual salary per team..devil1197 wrote:Last time I checked, ManU was in some big debt.Laley23 wrote: Actually a lot of the soccer teams (even some good ones, like Valencia) are in sever dept or close to it (Liverpool, Arsenal, etc)

Yeah, he just got paid 38 mil over 3 years.LTrain23 wrote: Damn, I was kind of hoping Cleveland could make a run at him, albeit a small chance...
Cleveland could only do around 5 or so mil per year. Basically the MLE. Cleveland will end up with a nice player for the MLE imo. They won't have to break it up like they did with Parker and Moon simply because there won't be that much roster space unless they make a deal (which from what I hear may be likely).
Remember I posted earlier this year that Gilbert said Cleveland wouldn't sit back and let teams try to woo LeBron or steal him away. He will make the Cavaliers better this summer if thats possible.

I know W&G was saying Gilbert and Ferry will be pushing for a BIG move this summer.
