61-31 in 3 years and has been able to bring in pretty good talent. Underachieved in the tourney last year losing to Cleveland State, and early departures to the draft have hurt.
Still makes no sense.

He isnt a very good coach. The talent he brought in was Skip Prossers and he has underachieved with that talent in pretty much every aspect of the game.

Gaudio is a terrible coach. A smart preemptive strike by Wake before he destroys the program.

Hmmmmmmm, Brad Stevens???? Major underachievers in 2009, not overly surprising but still is nonetheless.

Yeah, I mean he did OK with Skip's recruits. But he really isn't that good; even though I think he'll land somewhere.

This would be the most attractive job for Brad Stevens right now outside the Oregon job (only because of the money and Nike). Wake hasn't been to a Final Four in over half a decade, but the Deacons do have a strong basketball tradition and it is in the ACC at a basketball school.
I still think he'd be stupid to leave Butler this year, though. This Butler team can get back to a Final Four. Mack might be the team's second best player next year, and that's saying something considering Hayward and Howard are the two-time defending Horizon League Players of the Year, respectively.
Only if Hayward were to bolt would I say it be a good time for Stevens to leave. But leaving him behind unless it was for a blueblood, would not be a great decision in terms of coaching position. In terms of money, well, then there are a lot of better options, including places like Clemson.

It may be harsh, given he hasnt been a complete failure, but it really is a preventative tactic. Guadio is a horrible coach and would run Wake to the bottom of the ACC given the time.

With the talent Wake has had the past couple of years, they should have played in at least one Elite Eight. Especially in '09. Losing to CSU, that was a complete joke.
Wake should go after Stevens, but Stevens should decline.
Wake might also try Al Skinner.. Lol.

I'd say I share the sentiments of those saying this was a preventative tactic. Probably could have given him another year but it probably would have been exactly that, another year. Might as well just do it now instead of delaying the inevitable. I think he did about as good of a job as he could have with the team he had this year but I think last year was a HUGE disappointment. There's no reason that team shouldn't have been in the Sweet 16/Elite 8 and they get bounced by Cleveland State. It'll be interesting to see how things shake up now with all these changes in the ACC.

61-31 during his 3 years. Funny how the ACC thinks it is still the superior conference and fires a guy with that record. The memory of Pete Gillian must only last three years. Student Athletes? 61-31?

What's so hilarious? Iowa fired its coach, Penn State should fire its and Bruce Webber should never have been given the job.
I'm ecstatic about this. The ACC finally has a chance to bring in some solid coaches. Hopefully Wake and Clemson take note. I still wish Paul would've left G Tech and the Tubby rumor would have been true.

I mean "more" solid coaches, but I agree that the ACC -- outside of K, Williams, Gary Williams and Tony Bennett -- needs some work.
