Most of the time when politicians "misspeak" in the heat of the moment they say what they're really thinking and feeling which they normally would not because usually they're smart enough to keep that shit under wraps. Regardless that clip is gonna show up in campaign ads 10 million times this fall.

He said some pretty foolish things in that video, not the least of which was being ignorant of the difference between the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution (which he's sworn to uphold). Then he followed it up with an intelligent (and vehement) "I don't care!" when this was pointed out to him.

Fact is he couldn't or wouldn't respond to the tough questions he was asked; you know, the kinds of questions that all members of the media should have asked every Democrat from Obama on down, but never did.

This is the most truth I have heard come out of a congressman's mouth in a long time.

The guy most definitely misspoke, and he will most likely have his words used against him in the next election!

Now, a confession on my part. After watching the video, I thought the guy asking the question that spurred Hare's response was being an ass and that his question was a non issue because I knew there were several federal mandates that weren't in the Constitution. So I decided to Google a list of federal mandates so i can have a complete list of those mandates to ask, "Where in the Constitution does it give the federal government to [insert federal mandate here]" and what I found...to say the least, surprised and scared me. Surprised me because for the most part I agree with it, scared me because I agree with it and that it sorta pushes my views a little further to the right!

It was written in 1995, but could have been written yesterday.

The guy with the camera was pretty rough in how he handled everything, but no more so than an aggressive reporter would be in a similar situation (well, maybe with a tad more tact).

Whether other things have been allowed to slide though without Constitutional challenge is a topic all to itself -- but it's pretty frightening how federalized we've allowed ourselves to become when our name is the United STATES of America.

States are supposed to have the last word on almost all issues except those specified.

Sadly, we've allowed certain leaders with their own agendas, starting with a very aggressive FDR, to lead us astray.

His point is that it's a Democrat that is on camera literally screwed for election time so the people filming and asking questions must have had an ulterior motive. Obviously the Congressman should be excused, we can't expect our representatives to answer questions on camera.

None of these clowns give a fuck about what is in the Constitution. I doubt they even know what is in there.

I imagine that if you badgered most/all politicians in that way that they'd all say similar things. Get Chaney or someone involved with us going into Iraq and I'm willing to bet with the right questions you could get them to say something along the lines of "to hell with sovereignty" or "I don't care if we lied about WMDs it needed done".

That's all that I was saying. You can stop assuming what I feel as far as party affiliations go and that'd be great.

I didn't watch the video. I don't need to see a Congressman admit he doesn't give a shit about the Constitution. I already know they don't. You can look at their actions and know that they don't.

Again, it's insane that he'd say something like this but I don't think it's fair to extrapolate that everyone who voted for the health bill doesn't care about the Constitution because of it.
