Five white players could be on the court at tipoff. That’s the most since 1998, when six white players started in the Utah-Kentucky final.
Just a good article. I gotta admit, I have said at times team so and so can't win they have too many white boys, LOL, all in jest of course. If you can play, you can play!!

Glad somebody brought it up rather than act like it's not an interesting dynamic to this game.

I can't believe Whitlock hasn't had some pearl of wisdom to offer about it this week.

I was going to start a topic about this, then I noticed Yahoo felt the same way.
I cant understand why some of the top teams pass on white guys while Duke never has. The 2 teams in the title game have white guys playing so I guess they can play with the rest of them. Coach Cal is a fine example of not getting white kids. I know Hood came to UK this past season but he was a Billy G recruit.

I don't think Calipari is the only culprit. If you notice, there are normally only a very small number of schools (counting the Big 6 conferences and the strong mid-major programs) who traditionally have more than a couple of white players on the team. Off of the top of my head they are Duke, Gonzaga, Stanford, Wisconsin, Northwestern and the Mountain West Conference Teams (most notably Utah and BYU). Rarely do you see an SEC or an ACC team with a number of white guys. I think the fact that the South has a large concentration of black people plays a role in this issue (just as the low number plays in states like Utah, Colorado, etc.).

The one school who I think really goes out of their way not to recruit white kids is Georgetown. John Thompson and his son JTIII have made it perfectly clear they will recruit and play black players only. This is an interesting situation as Georgetown is a small private college, in the mold of Duke or Butler. Also, Georgetown runs that Princeton offense, which JTIII picked up while coaching almost entirely all white basketball players.

77Legend there is nothing wrong with this, its not racist but it is a fact. Had it been the other way around that is all we would have heard about. Come on now you see a basketball team full of 14yr old looking white boys and you think they are an easy win.

While Cal might be guilty of this at other schools, it's not the case at Kentucky.

I think since 2000, the only White Player I can remember playing for the Cats was Patrick Sparks. Like someone else, the SEC/ACC are going to have more black players simply because of their location.

It's kinda fucked up that people still look at things as black and white ball players ...why can't they just be ball players?
