Indianapolis.. West Virginia star Da'Sean Butler said doctors have told him he has a sprained left knee and didn't expect to find more serious damage once they re-examine him in a few days.

Butler was injured with 8:59 left to play in the Mountaineers' 78-57 loss to Duke in Saturday night's national semifinal game at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Butler, a senior from Newark, N.J., was hurt while driving to the basket. He said he planted his left foot to hop toward the basket, but planted too hard. His knee buckled and he fell to the court.

"It wasn't that big of a deal," Butler said. "It scared me because I've never hurt anything before. You see all these people get hurt, and I was afraid it happened to me."

Butler, who was named a second-team All-American by the Associated Press earlier this week, scored 10 points on 2-for-8 shooting in 28 minutes.

He sure made it look like a big deal
If you were senior and were close to realizing your dream of a pro basketball career, you might make a big deal out of a knee injury.

Glad to hear they don't think it's anything serious.

I'm sure he was in a great deal of pain and also a little scared, never being in that situation before.

At least he didn't leave in a wheel chair and come back 2 minutes later :)

from where i was sitting in the stadium it looked pretty ugly. it also looked like Huggins was kissing Butler.

They say sprain right now, but they are going to re-examine in a few days to determine just how much injury was done.

And Butler has never been a sissy so that pain you saw was real.

Glad to hear it doesn't seem to be too serious. He was a good player and enjoyed watching him play, but if it turns our to be just a sprain....what an embarrassment, after the way he acted!

Take the blinders off, Zoubek was not set on the play. It wasn't as bad as the charge call in the Baylor game, but it was an incorrect call. The bigger question is what is your 7'10" mutant of a center doing trying to take a charge?

Not really. Butler said he was more scared than anything. Said he had friends who have lost their careers to knee injuries and that is the first thing he thought about when it happened. Plus Butler knew it was the end of his college career and he felt like he let everyone down...

""I was just apologizing because I wanted to win it for him, too," Butler said.

Butler said he was more scared than anything else. After watching Purdue star Robbie Hummel suffer a season-ending knee injury late in the season, Butler feared he'd suffered the same fate. And with a potential NBA career looming, Butler didn't want his college career to end with a serious injury.

"I'd do anything for the last 14 minutes," Butler said, as his blood-shot eyes began to tear up again. "I wish I could change it. That's it. That's all I've got."

This

That exactly what I was telling my friend when it was happening. I was like this is sad because he is a senior and like most kids work their entire life to make the NBA only for a injury to occur a couple months before the draft. Great news though that it wasn't serious.

ive seen enough of your posts to label you unknowing in rules interpretation. a defensive player does not have to be "set" to take a charge. the def player has to be in legal guarding position to get a player control foul called which is was it was, a player out of contro crashing into a player in legal guarding position.

Someone PLEASE block ESPN on Evan Turner's TV and Internet! If he see this, then he is gone for sure. Though it seems like he already is, a fan can still have hope right? :)

.....Back to the subject. I feel for Butler. Terrible news. Hopefully he can stay strong, bounce back, and still make a NBA roster in the future.

Zoubek jumps in front of Butler as he is driving to the basket. That is legal guarding position? What is Butler supposed to do? He is already in the air before Zoubek "gets set." It is clear from this one post you have never played any form of athletics in your life.

What? Did you not click the link or are you just blind? A secondary defender cannot jump in front of a offensive player like that.

And lulz at him being in position and controlling that part of the floor.

Zoubek was in place. That's it. Watch the tape. I will mail it to you if you can't navigate the Internet. Any further discussion on this issue is hollow.

I wish Butler a speedy recovery. I felt really bad for him when he landed.

I'm completely neutral on the call, but to me, I think that the charge was a fair call. However, I've also seen it called a block before. It's one of those 50-50 plays that could be called either way and one could make an argument. The refs called it a charge, so it's a charge. Butler was out of control and Zoubek was in somewhat position.

As for the injury, you just hate to see that happen. Especially for a senior who was looking at a potential NBA career. That injury just cost him millions of dollars.

actually i ref basketball which is all that matters. i played also but that has no bearing on the rules.
