He's trying to say he's not turning anyone away, because that would be like, ya know, against his oath or whatever...but he says if people turn around because of the sign he won't lose sleep over it. This guy should have his medical license revoked.

Doctors refuse to take patients all the time (as in dropping Medicare and/or Medicaid reimbursements).

I don't see how refusing to take on a patient is against any oath.

So he's not actually not treating anyone, just has a sing saying don't come in if you voted for Obama. But if you come in anyway he will treat you. I see nothing wrong with the sign, and saying he should have his medical license revoked is ridiculous.

So you're ok with a doctor potentially letting a patient die because they support President Obama

First of all he is a urologist, no one is dieing. And second of all, he ISN'T forcing them to go to a different doctor. Just saying he doesn't want him. The thread title was misleading and you obviously didn't read the article.

Exactly. Don't you just love hyperbole in the form of a question?

The Hippocratic Oath (Modern Version)
“I swear to fulfill, to the best of my ability and judgment, this covenant:

I will respect the hard-won scientific gains of those physicians in whose steps I walk, and gladly share such knowledge as is mine with those who are to follow.

I will apply, for the benefit of the sick, all measures [that] are required, avoiding those twin traps of overtreatment and therapeutic nihilism.

I will remember that there is art to medicine as well as science, and that warmth, sympathy, and understanding may outweigh the surgeon's knife or the chemist's drug.

I will not be ashamed to say "I know not," nor will I fail to call in my colleagues when the skills of another are needed for a patient's recovery.

I will respect the privacy of my patients, for their problems are not disclosed to me that the world may know. Most especially must I tread with care in matters of life and death. If it is given me to save a life, all thanks. But it may also be within my power to take a life; this awesome responsibility must be faced with great humbleness and awareness of my own frailty. Above all, I must not play at God.

I will remember that I do not treat a fever chart, a cancerous growth, but a sick human being, whose illness may affect the person's family and economic stability. My responsibility includes these related problems, if I am to care adequately for the sick.
I will prevent disease whenever I can, for prevention is preferable to cure.

I will remember that I remain a member of society, with special obligations to all my fellow human beings, those sound of mind and body as well as the infirm.
If I do not violate this oath, may I enjoy life and art, respected while I live and remembered with affection thereafter. May I always act so as to preserve the finest traditions of my calling and may I long experience the joy of healing those who seek my help.”
Hopefully this despicable human being will have his medical license revoked.

I have no idea whether he's required to treat people or not, but either way, this is stupid and petty.

He does not have the right to refuse treatment except for one reason.

Not knowing how to treat.

He refused treatment with his own admission.

"If you voted for Obama seek Urologic treatment elsewhere."

That is refusing treatment. It does not matter what his backtrack statement is.

That isn't refusing. If you walk in the door, say I voted for Obama, and then he refuses to treat you it would be. A sign saying seek treatment elsewhere is not refusal.

No he isn't, he is saying that he doesn't want to treat you. C'mon, I think it's a stupid and petty thing to do just as much as the next person, but until someone comes in and says "I've got a giant cancerous kidney tumor, will you remove it?" and he says "no", it's a moot, rhetorical argument.

Hmm really?

So signs that say if you are Irish you need not apply is not a refusal either?

The Irish person did not actually walk in and ask for an application or I would have given him one LOL.

...and 85% agree with the doc ........................ when will the radical leftists get it through their thick heads???

Poll: OK for doctor to protest health-care bill by shunning Obama voters?
Lake County urologist Dr. Jack Cassell has put up a sign on his office door reading, "If you voted for Obama seek urologic care elsewhere." What do you think?

What is your reaction to Dr. Jack Cassell's actions?

Good for him. Obamacare will be a disaster, and we should keep fighting it. (25868 responses)

85%

Get over it, Doc. Health-care reform was badly needed, and this is just more sour grapes from the GOP. (1560 responses)

Prescription for trouble. No matter what you think of the health-care overhaul, doctors should not impose their political views on patients. (3084 responses)
