Ran across this and thought it was a very good read, coming from an Evangelical and an insider to see how the warped minds were produced in the Mich militia. But he projects more coming problems from the victimhood of the Far Religious Right and with the high number of posters here with extreme Right Wing views, the article shows an amazing accuracy for portraying how this developed in the U.S.

I'm afraid that I agree that more violence is to come frrom the Far Right , but the article helps to explain by an insider of the Evangelical movement thew twisted & warped sense of the political Right today.

Wow- a few things:

1) Schaeffer is no longer an insider- his father was an outstanding Christian scholar and author- how his son turned out like this is beyond me.

2) People who distort the Bible, the Book of Revelation, etc. is nothing new, it's been going on for centuries. How many different cults do we have in America now? And yet Schaeffer uses that distortion of Scripture as evidence that all evangelicals/Tea Partiers/ Republicans (however many millions of them there are in America) are next in line to gather in the woods with high-powered weapons and try to overthrow the government. Which brings me to-

3) Not all Evangelicals are Republicans, not all Republicans are Tea Partiers, not all Tea Partiers are Evangelicals, etc., etc. Irresponsible of Schaeffer to label all as the same, and all as whackos ready to bring violence on their fellow citizens. Then again, a page right out of the liberal playbook- when you have no facts, logic, or ideas, then you call your opponent a "racist" or someone who's in it for the "evil, greedy, rich corporations" (or in this case, a religious wacko).

4) He seems to be extremely preoccupied with LaHaye/Jenkins and the Left Behind series. Bear in mind that that is one school of interpretation of end times Biblical prophecies, and many respectful intelligent people have differing opinions on the subject. I personally don't care for the commercialization and entertainment-ization of the book of Revelation (which I believe to be inspired and will be played out in some form in the future).

5) That's a half hour of my life I will never get back after reading that article and posting my thoughts.

Anyone who believes that the "far left" is any less violent isn't paying attention.

I used to laugh when Bob Beckel would get on Fox and say the Republican Party had essentially become nothing more than Birthers, Baggers and Blowhards. There seems to be a coordinated effort on the left to come up with something that will stick to describe them as whackos.

Paladin, I don't think we really want to start talking about what makes up most of the Democratic party do we for comparison?

It probably wouldn't be too "PC".

I love it when the wacky left points an accusing finger at the wacky right. Pot meet kettle.

Getting really tired of these sorts of things.

Why can't we just agree that each side has some rather wacky, crazy folks, and just dismiss them?

I love to laugh at nuts on the left, just as i do those nuts on the right. (not referring to my genitalia)

But i'm not stupid enough to believe that those nuts represent the entire left or the entire right.

Very refreshing.

Although the right is now pretty much where it's always been on the issues. The left, however, is moving ever further to the left, and then whines and moans that the right is nothing but wackos and extremists.

The Mich Militia & the Tea party nuts sure present a good light on the Far Right. The Right just keeps moving farther out "there". :p

I'd disagree there.
