This guy has played lights out the past 5 games. It started with a 23 point quarter against the Cavs and continued tonight with a 30 points effort(6/7 behind the arc) against the Spurs. In the 5 game stretch Thornton has averaged 26.2 ppg and is hitting a little over 50% from the field and behind the arc.

Not bad for the 13th pick in the 2nd round.

Marcus Thornton is a ridiculously talented offensive player, always has been since he stepped on the court at LSU. Watching him from his Junior to Senior year, he really started to "get it." Now, he's a budding star in the NBA who only needed a chance.

Not to bust your chops Prescott, but Thornton was a JUCO player :)

The Hornets came out of this draft with two gems in Thornton and Collison. The only problem is that Collison won't get much extended run when Chris Paul is healthy and is too small to give him minutes at the two guard. The Hornets will trade him at some point in the next 2 years, almost have to.

Or they try to get someone else to run along side Collison and Thronton and get rid of Chris Paul. I mean really, with the way Collison has played this year they may be a better team by picking up a star not named Paul. It's not insane to get rid of a guy like that if you get another star from him--like a Bosh or something.

Although I don't really think they have any intentions of unloading Paul.

I thought he was a really good player in college and was NBA ready. He played in college for 4 years (unlike the one and done guys) and was physically mature. I was a little surprised he slipped to the 2nd round. The other guy I really like was Dejuan Blair, and he's playing pretty well himself for a 2nd rounder.

I have no problems with JUCOS. That was a k problem.

If I were New Orleans I would consider moving Paul.He has great value and the return could set the team up for years to come.

This is why I was pissed that the Heat traded Thorton to the Hornets. The dude was a scorer in college and I thought he'd be able to be an all around scorer at this level (something that Cook hasn't shown).

I'd also trade to trade Paul, and that sounds crazy. But they could get a very nice young combo to help this team in the future. Go the OKC route, because this team isn't doing anything now-a-days anyways.

They will trade Collinson this summer. Anybody who thinks they're trading Paul (especially now that they're under the tax) is crazy. Collinson's stock won't ever be higher than it is now. They'll trade him for a nice little piece.

Paul is one of the best PG's in the league and is still young. Collison is good but he isn't close to Paul imo.

With the Hornets being okay money wise now getting under the cap, he'll stay and the Hornets will trade Collison.

Because you have a commodity whose market price is never going to be higher this summer.... you have the best point guard in the game... and you need more than somebody who is going to play 10-12 minutes a game. Especially if you have any interest in retaining the services of said PG.

Because you have two legit starting PG's on your team. Collison will become disgruntled after Paul gets back and takes his minutes.

Hornets will benefit by trading Collison to get an upgrade at a different position.

Going into last year's draft, Thornton was someone I was hoping the Cavs would pick up to help improve the 2 spot. He's been playing lights out lately, lets see if he can continue it the rest of the year.

trading Chris Paul at this point would be a new age Herschal Walker trade. Chris Paul has a chance to go down as the best PG in the history of the game. You don't trade a player like that before he has even reached the prim of his career.

I'd only trade Paul if a big contract was going with him (Peja, maybe Posey, maybe another person) for a superstar and depth. Id rather let Collison grow, pay him a lot less than Paul, get a superstar at a need like SG or SF, and add depth around West and Okafor. Nothing against Paul, I just don't see this team going anywhere soon. I'd rather start a rebuilding process a lot early and try to do what OKC has done.
