Its Official Fellas.............Paige Nemic has qualified for the Division 2 High School State Wrestling Tournament....Kudos young lady.

Paige lost her quarterfinal match to Mike Rix of S.V.S.M, who will compete for the District title vs Cory Stainbrook of Streetsboro.

Looks like Nemic Stormed back trough the Consol's winning by pin 5:51 over Rowe of Fairless and 2-1 over Jessie Gunter of Coventry. Nemic now will face off for 3rd vs Sean Fee ofLake Catholic High.

I was hoping she'd win. Not that I don't like Gunter but he has two more years to make it, this was it for her and the first real shot for a girl to make it to state that I know of. Out of Firestone no less.

There was a girl from northmor a few years back that made it. Her lil sister was tough too, I think her name was shelby. Congrats to this young lady, tough to do at this level for a girl.

I'm assuming you're talking about a different state because no girl has qualified for state in Ohio before.

Jessica Shirley, 112 pounder from Northmor High in Morrow County, was the first female to win a match at the District level. This was a decade ago.

Sean is her cousin. I remember an interview with him a few years ago (after junior year?) when he said, "you should see my cousin!"

I got a chance to watch Paige at the Girls Team Ohio training camp a few years ago. I've seen a lot of very talented female wrestlers, but she stood out as someone who is at a very, very high level technically. Really, the first true wave of female "mat rats" that wrestled from the time they were four.

I mean this with all respect to female wrestlers...she drills and hits moves like a guy. I've never seen anything like it from a high school girl. When she was 15, she drilled like the elite, national level college women at CUmberland College. And it must be noted...even though I hate doing it...that she is not a masculine person. She is just that technical and that good.

Big day for Paige, big day for "making history" and, most importantly, a big day for hard work paying off.

Congrats, Nemec.

personally I think it would be cool if they had a girls division, just one big division. Since there is womens wrestling in college now.

I think Shelby won the Junior High Districts and then won a match at the Junior High State Tournament before losing the next two matches
. Awesome athlete... Anybody know if she is still wrestling???

She is not wrestling anymore. I think she quit after her freshman year and then went out for basketball. Had she been able to wrestle at 103 she may very well have been the first to qualify for state.
When she was younger she was fantasitc.

After one year of basketball, A sophomore Shelby went out to Fargo on the Girls Team Ohio and finished 2nd. She hadn't wrestled at all prior to training camp in about a year b/c of shoulder surgery. She ended up as a middle weight and I think that may have caused her to step away a bit. Very good, though.

Is she a senior now. My little brothers used to wrestle her all the time. She would give them a heck of a match every time. If she isnt a senior she should wrestle next year! She was super tough!

Iwearpants, I know my man, didn't mean to seem like I thought you were. All is good. No harm done.
