It was funny how Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith was saying yesterday that this should be illegal and unfair. Expect more drama about this the next few weeks.

Well, it is bullshit, it was bullshit when it was done before just as it's bullshit in this case. The problem is on the NBA's lap, they might address it off season, but they damn well better not make issue of it now, in the middle of the season.

I have no problem with players doing this. There is no reason a player can't be picky about who he re-signs with. Guys did it this past off-season, and we have seen a shift in the NBA recently where players take discounts to join up with the top teams.

As much as I'd love to rip the Cavs and say it's BS, it's not. Washington didn't care enough to stop it, so they bought him out. Also, it's nearly impossible to prove there was a pre-arrangement in these cases, unless the player and/or team or someone affiliated with the team is dumb enough to talk about it.

Bottom line is, this issue is deep rooted in the NBA and stems from the whole design of the salary cap and the financial system. In some ways, it's brilliant how the NBA does it, and in other ways it allows for stuff like this. The only way to stop it is prevent a player from re-signing with a team who traded him at all, or at least until the "turnover" following the post-season occurs.

I still don't get it why guys like Jackson and Rivers are crying about it. IT'S NOT AS IF THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. Know how to hustle and you get things done like this. I share azu's sentiments completely. It might be a dumb loophole but it's there.

As for Z, I really hope they start him his first game back. He deserves it.

I don't know what you're talking about....I have always loved and respected Z. He is and has always been a fan favorite. I know that's hard for some to understand.

Nobody raged on him.. some people felt he may have lost it, but most of us said he needed to adjust..

I think I speak for all true Cleveland fans when I say we all love and admire Z.

Now go worry about your bandwagon.

No one has ever said Z sucked or anything along those lines.

We all knew it was necessary to get rid of his expiring contract to bring in the final piece of the puzzle.

Even if Z were not coming back after the trade, it would still be what we wanted and needed.

It just happened to work out in our favor and we got to keep Z in the long run.

I don't understand why this should be illegal...Washington accepted the trade. Then decided they didn't want Z. They bought him out, so Z became a free agent. Free agents can sign with whoever they want. If Washington wanted Z, they could have kept him...It was just a smart trade by Ferry and the rest of the league is crying because we're better.

Even David Stern doesnt like this and commented he wanted to block this from happening. although like another poster pointed out. it would be wrong to implement a new rule in the middle of the season like this.

because even though no one said there was a prior agreement, it would be really niave to think there wasnt an understood agreement for Z to go back.

Not illegal at all. I think Z comes back because he loves Cleveland. Inspite of what all the national media says, there are people that do love Cleveland, Ohio.

To be a major part of breaking the 46 year losing streak would be s something to be proud of.

agreed...even if there was a prearranged agreement, if its an agreement between two teams on a player, why should it be illegal. Despite the rumors, I think it would be nearly impossible for Z to not come back. He would have had to been offered an absurd amount of money for him to choose another team.

Rudoy said he wasn’t sure of Ilgausaks’ motivations other than a desire to play for a team with championship aspirations.

“We haven’t gotten past this whole thing of being traded away,” he said. “That was sort of expected but it didn’t make him happy. He’s got a lot of years invested in Cleveland, and that makes it a very complicated decision for him. He wants to win a championship, but I don’t know how (else) he will make a decision. He told me he’s taking his time, and that’s what he will do.”

Dallas Mavericks representatives declined formal comment Sunday, but one source briefed on the discussions told ESPN.com that Ilgauskas' agent, Herb Rudoy, has informed the Mavericks that Ilgauskas intends to re-sign with the Cavaliers as soon as he's eligible.

Rudoy, though, has repeatedly insisted that Ilgauskas won't make a firm decision until next week.
I say Windy knows what he is talking about and these sources may not. Agent might be doing the right thing and saying he hasnt decided yet, so he doesnt rule out the possibility of someone giving them a mind blowing deal.
