I haven't voted yet (probably for Bale) but of the actors/actresses mentioned in hitsrus' post, GARY OLDMAN is easily the best actor. Forget not being nominated, how he hasn't won is beyond me. He's easily on the top 10 list of actors in my lifetime.

The best actor isn't even in the poll question.

Gary Oldman

I voted for Sutherland.

I'm sorry, I don't know much about the Oscars..... They must slip under my every watchful eye for worthless awards shows every year....

I thought the same thing, Gere is the 40's-50's version of Michael Sera. Gere plays the same character in every film. I suppose he is a good looking guy, but as far as acting goes he's as wooden as they come. He has zero range.

He did a great job showcasing his talents in the musical "Chicago". His costars pulled in the nods and the hardware...he got zip.

It is a crime that Sutherland has not even got a nomination.

Looks like I'm taking heat for not putting Oldman in the list at the top.....

Jim Carrey is one of my favorites so I'm biased. I know a lot of his acting has been based on comedy, but I thought he delivered incredible acting performances in the Truman Show, Man on the Moon, The Cable Guy, the Number 23, and of course...The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (my personal favorite)

"the Number 23"

That might be the worst movie in the history of movies.

of the options i voted for Bale, but he won't be in that category for very long. Far too talented for that to last.

Gary Oldman, Donald Sutherland and Jim Carey not even being nominated is a crime. Sorry, but Liar Liar was easily one of the 5 best comedy movies of the '90s.

Far too talented and not being able to talk? He can only whisper or yell.

Jim Carrey is good in his serious films, The Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind was wonderful.

How many Bale movies have you seen? Batman and Terminator?

Watch American Psycho, 3:10 to Yuma, The Prestige, and The Machinist, he's legit.

I agree Bale is the best of the bunch listed above. However, I hear the French are up in arms because Jerry Lewis has never won an Oscar.

Jerry Lewis has actually received an honorary Oscar. Lewis was by far, the best comic actor of his time. That he didn't get an Oscar nod, is because of the Academy's disregard for comedy....and only rewards dramatic roles.

Eh, could have been a lot better. Carrey made it watchable, for me. The movie itself had tons of potential.

I like his movies, but he still only whispers or yells.

The Prestige, American Psycho, and the 3:10 to Yuma remake were all really good.
