thanks for trying but you guys fail... that the same things i can come up with... im not looking for stats...
when Tom Jackson says the leagues 3 rated defense or Jaws says the leauges top ranked defense.. .where do they come up with that... anyone can go to nfl.com or yahoo sports and find stats that are sortable by whichever stat they want... and the jets are usally listed first cause they gave up the least amount of YPG...
thanks again

.where do they come up with that.
Depends on their criteria. Maybe, they are referring to scoring defense.

They are referring to the defense that gives up the fewest Total yards, which is what me and rotinaj gave you. As far as I know there is no list that combines total yds given up and total points given up into 1 list. There is a separate category for points allowed but I don't put much stock into that because the offenses could be putting defenses in very bad positions with turnovers and the other teams defense may return a Interception or fumble for a TD and that would count against them.

The #1 overall defense is simple, it's the Jets.
#1 in total yards
#1 in points
#1 in passing yards
#1 in stopping 3rd down conversions

There is no stat that combines the two. The overall defense is the YPG stat. If you talk anything else (like PPG) you have to specify as much.

I started to run a spreadsheet using a points system to see who graded out the highest overall, but got weary and gave up.
