I would rather be a Hall of Fame QB, but strictly for financial reasons, as I would have a better chance to get post-career endorsements (for example, Dan Marino doing the Isotoner commercials) or possibly be an NFL announcer (like Boomer Esiason).
I may be wrong, but I don't see Jeff Hostetler or Doug Williams doing too much lately.

Either way, I made a great living playing a game that I was more than willing to play for free in my backyard as a kid. I don't think you're really wrong with either choice. The only thing that would make me want to select the career backup of the two though, is the long term affects of injuries suffered during a playing career in the NFL. Backup QBs generally don't suffer too many concussions and torn up knees.
But its not enough...of the two I'd take the HOF. What better feeling could there be as an athlete than to recognized as one of the all-time greats in your sport?

HOF quarterback. I agree, Marino has done pretty well for himself after retirement from the NFL

Trent Dilfer also wasn't a career backup. He was a starter for the majority of his career.

It depends on a few things.
If you're just a backup that never got in one game and the team won the Super Bowl with another player starting at QB, then I'd rather be the Hall of Famer with no ring.
That's not the same as Trent Dilfer, who was average but still was the starter on a Super Bowl winning team. I would rather be the guy that wins the Super Bowl in that case.

Not even a decent question. HOFer without a doubt. Like I always say, rings are team awards. If you don't play on a team good enough it isn't your fault--it's not a one man game. The ring argument is way overhyped IMO. Of course you'd love to have a ring, that's what they play for (well, that's 2nd on the list to money whether anyone likes it or not) but as far as individual accomplishments go the HOF is way bigger than a ring. There are long snappers who have rings and the average fan wouldn't know they played in the league if you said their name. If you're in the HOF, people know your name...and they know it because you were DAMN good. Takes a GREAT team to win a Super Bowl, has nothing to do with how great one of the players is.

Nobody dreams of sitting on a bench watching other people win a championship.
Keep the ring, I'll take the hall of fame career.

I think Len Dawson did just fine for himself without winning a ring.

More lopsided than I thought it would be. I have to come up with a more creative poll lol.

Yep, I forgot about that. Vikings were favorited by 12 going into the game.

HOF QB, no question.
That said, a career back-up with a limited number of starts as a sub isn't a bad gig. You don't have to take the beating and get to collect a nice paycheck.
