Talking about Price?

He was going to be in an arbitration year. So he is making more money, probably, than he wouldve. He will be a FA next summer and will cash in.

I imagine they have been trying to sign him to a deal ya would think, or am I wrong?
He is hoping for another good year, stay injury free, and bank.

I dont know, I guess I have a diff mindset. I would rather sign lets say a 5 year, 60 million deal than a one year, 14 million and then hope to stay healthy, productive and then bank.

I am more conservative i guess.

Tampa isnt signing him long term. He cant sign anywhere else. Tampa, for one, cant afford to do a long term deal for a ton of money like Price will be asking (200 Million plus). Joe Maddon last year expected Price to be traded this off-season. That doesnt look like it will happen anymore, but might during season still.

But, bottom line is, Price was never getting a multi-year deal this off-season. Tampa isnt going to do that.

I thought the Kershaw/Stafford pic and info was the obvious key.

5 teams have made offers to Masahiro Tanaka.....The offers came from the Yankees, Dodgers, Cubs, White Sox, and Diamondbacks(kind of surprised the Blue Jays were not in there)....and were in the $100 million/6year range. Tanaka must sign by 5PM on Friday or his right revert to his Japanese team. The team that signs Tanaka must also pay his Japanese team a posting fee of $20 million.

Tanaka is only 25 years old, was unbeaten in Japan last year and posted a 1.27 ERA.

Yankees get him for 7 years, $155 mil. Player option after year 4, I believe.

It's actually costs them $175 million total when you include the $20 million dollar posting fee.

That is nuts for a guy that has never thrown one pitch on American soil.

Yeah, I was talking just the actual contract.

Part of me wants to see him pitch well and part of me hopes that he absolutely falls flat on his face.

Thought I read it wrong yesterday......24-0 last year?
I think some have compared that league to AAA. 24-0 with a small ERA is just video game like. He is young and has put up numbers. Will see if he can handle the big leagues but with those numbers you have to think he will do just fine.

I think it was on Sports Illustrated's site I saw that when taking the tax implications into account, this signing really is going to cost them $252 million over 7 years if it goes the length of the deal and he never opts out.

They are no longer going to be under the $189 million to reset the tax number, so when you look at it from that standpoint he better freaking be Randy Johnson in his prime re-incarnate level dominant because the money they are spending on him is other worldly.

The opening post of this thread was about the Yankees planning a big spending spree....totally embarrassed that they weren't in the playoffs last year. Obviously they intend to buy a spot this year.

Not content with inking Tanaka, they turn their sites on even more....

Yankees buying a championship? I've never heard of such a thing.

Where's Jordo to tell me that low payrolls win championships?

The thing that annoys me is reading all the columnists talking about how the Yankees are good for baseball because it gives fans a "villain" to root against. Yes, nothing makes baseball more fun than a tiny handful of teams with the resources to play by their own set of rules, basically turning the rest of MLB (and the international game) into one very expanded minor league.

It's one thing for there to be a villain to cheer against, but when things get to this point, I find myself cheering for things like busted rotator cuffs and shit like that just so they fail miserably and have to look in the mirror and realize they've spent a billion dollars on a bunch of damaged goods.
