On Friday I plugged everything in, downloaded the patch, but due to PSN network issues was unable to install the patch for a few hours...This was fine as I did it while the kids were awake in anticipation of it taking awhile, and everything was all set by the time we put them to bed.
Played some Killzone (MP only). Graphics are amazing, but there is a weird blur on the graphics that kind of drives me nuts (I've never played a prior KZ game so I'm not sure if this is just a trademark of all KZ games). This is a slower, more strategic MP experience. I like it so far, but I'm not really itching to get back into it at this point, so this may be a game that I trade in sooner than later...No voice chat on multiplayer, which is weird in a game that requires strategy.
Battlefield had problems all Friday night, so I wasn't able to play it, but I did play Resogun (arcade style shooter free with PSN+ subscription). This game is a blast, played for an hour or so. It's a simple game but the graphics are pretty stunning and the sounds are great.
Finally able to play some Battlefield a little on Saturday, but no Conquest mode yet, it is still not working (64 players/vehicles/etc.). So I played a few of the other modes and the game is awesome, I see myself spending many hours playing just like I did with prior installments. This is the game I can't wait to play tonight again (over Killzone).
The UI is super fast and I prefer it over the PS3, although they are pretty similar. It's nice to pop out to the menus and hop right back into the game with little downtime. I haven't used any of the media apps yet (netflix, hulu, etc.), and I have not used it as a BR player...Those things will be used more on the Xbox One in my house.
The UI is lacking in comparison to what I'm sure the Xbox One will be like. I was more of an Xbox 360 gamer last generation, so I'm used to that and look forward to checking it out on Friday when mine gets here.
I will say that early impressions are making me feel that if I didn't have an Xbox One preordered I would feel a little bit like I may have made the wrong choice in systems...I don't know what it is, though, and I've probably just not given it enough time. Maybe it's just the fact that there were connection issues with BF all weekend (EA's fault, not PSN)...I still feel that in the long run PS4 is going to have the most impressive games and the exclusive games that I feel like I can't miss (Last of Us, Uncharted, etc.).
edit: oh yeah, the controller is great....Way better than the PS3 controller, which I liked, but strongly preferred the Xbox 360 controller...It's hard to get used to not have a start/pause button, though, but I'm almost there. One complaint I have about the controller is the stupid blue light bar that can not be turned off -- there is a blue light glare on the bezel of my TV and the pictures that we have below the TV on our TV stand...Drives me nuts, I'm going to have to put electrical tape over it or something...
Xbox live >>>> PS network
Anyone who plays games online should have an xbox imo. Hopefully Sony can improve it now that they are charging for online subscription. That being said I've heard a lot of bad things about the ps4, but it is still early, these systems will get much better with time.
