That's cool they're holding it in central Ohio this year. Should be a great event to attend.

I can't believe this prestigious program is going down hill like this.

Sad to see Ready, Desales, Newark C. not able to fill line -ups. Who would have thought that Hartley and St. Charles would ever have more numbers?

I went to school in the mid-eighties at Fisher Catholic. (Cruiser....No need to remind me how long ago that was.) Ready, Desales and us were the best 'A' schools in Central Ohio. (And Licking Heights, left them out because were talking CIT) Then...The CIT was the best tourney in the state minus The State Tournament.
Please!!!! I'm not looking for an argument. It's just surprising to me the lack of numbers for these once great wrestling schools. Kind of sad.:-/

yes it is. There have been some "Changings of the Guard" if you can call it that. Where is Rooney from St. Charles? Injured?

Not to mention, no Watterson at all. While maybe not of the historical pedigree of the others, it is sad how far that program has fallen. I think they only have a handful of kids.

Yes I have a brother who helps out over there every once in a while, said there are only a few kids on the team. Wish these schools could get there numbers back up. Anyone think it comes from higher tuition rates now? I know when myself and my brothers were in school and our dad wanted to transfer us to DeSales it was pricey then and that was 10 years ago. Plus we would have had to gone to Fisher Catholic first for a year then could have went to DeSales.

YES. You are correct about the amount of the tuition. Fish eater from 92 myself. It was feasable for a "middle class" income to afford tuition... not today. 3 boys of mine all public schools. Explains the changing of the gaurd.

Speaking from personal experience in the past few years , there is little to no support from the leadership of
Watterson to continue the program, much less bring it back to the top of the CCL. I believe Hunter Maynard
was the last District Qual. in 2010, and the only one since late 90's. And he came in from Teays Valley that
year. Sad to see such a program fall .

I'd heard the same thing regarding the leadership gutting the program and running off a good coach. Sad indeed.

[One small correction: I believe Tommy Martin made it to states from Watterson in '08, but he was really a Dublin kid as he only attended Watterson his senior year]

Nicky DiCarlo was a DQ last year for Watterson. I've gotten to know him through our club in the spring...he is a great kid and hard-working!

You can have a successful program at any school in any sport. It's been done with support and without support. Of course it's easier to build with support of administration. You do however need a coach with a vision and a plan. A plan for this year next year and 5-10 down the road.

In the Watterson situation, from what I have been told, it was NOT a case of "lack of support", but actually an advesarial approach on the part of the administration. Your chances of having a successful program at a mid-sized Catholic school with an advesarial administration are about slim & none.

Plus it would be an added incentive for catholic schools to give their teachers (coaches) a decent retirement. I can't blame them for looking out for their family in the future.

double arm bars, Your last 2 sentences are right on and need to be kept up with every new wrestler coming into the program. Plus try to keep parents involved.

He sure was! And should have been a state qualifier. I helped out with him At Teays. He is a great kid, comes from a great family. he transferred to Watterson to play football and is now playing at Bowling Green, will probably be on his way to the NFL. Very good Offensive Lineman!

MPhillips , how did you manage that? I was at Power Club every week with Coach Marinelli and it still was going to cost a good bit, and in a house with 6 kids total, it was a lot of money for my parents. lol!
