I might use a late 7th round compensatory pick on a punter if it was kind of a "throwaway" pick anyway. Only Al Davis would burn a legit draft pick on a punter. Unfortunately, don't think the Browns will be getting any comp picks this year.

Nevertheless, at least one scribe is of the opinion that they should focus on the other side of the ball, at least if they're going to do all that new DC Ray Horton has indicated.

"To blitz as much as Horton prefers will make another top cover cornerback a high priority, perhaps the No. 1 priority," Marla Ridenour of the Akron Beacon Journal writes. "But that's just one of several holes the Browns must fill and questions they must answer. They also must find a starting free safety, several linebackers and a Pro Bowl-caliber pass rusher. They must decide if third-year defensive end Jabaal Sheard can play outside linebacker, if linebacker Chris Gocong, who ruptured his Achilles Aug. 4, can be counted on and figure out what to do with massive defensive tackle Phil Taylor."

Both Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay had the Browns addressing the pass-rush at No. 6 overall in their mock drafts released Thursday; Kiper went with FSU's Bjoern Werner while McShay shipped them LSU's Barkevious Mingo:

Steelers over the cap by 14 mill and have yet to resign any free agents. How many could the Browns benefit from signing, and who would you want? I already know you think all free agents are worthless COA. Anyone else care to weigh in?

I think we should sign Wallace, then sign flacco and then trade those two for Aaron Rodgers.

I would sign a top FA guard and maybe a LB or a DB. I think a couple FAs that fit a need would be smart to go after. We are limited in draft picks, as of now.

I like Jennings, but would prefer to sign a guy who isnt injured half of the time.

Id like Wallace as well, but only for the right price.


I dont expect to get anybody big, seeing that Haslam said they dont plan to make any "big" splashes this year.

I would honestly like to get Ted Ginn. Not that I think he will be a huge impact player but I think he can be a productive #4. I think a 4 wide set of Little and Gordon on the outside and Benjamin and Ginn on the inside would be hard to cover. Also can most likely get him on a short term deal with little risk.

Which would be a good fit in Chud/Norv's offense. I think they could be creative with him as well. His and Travis' speed can open up the offense.

I'd rather let Gordon continue to develop as the #1, without bringing in a guy who will whine for the ball (i.e. Mike Wallace).

What about Emmanuel Sanders? He's restricted, but if the Steelers are out of money they wouldn't be able to match. If they don't match the deal, do we still lose a draft pick? I'm still fuzzy on RFA rules.

yes if they are a RFA and the team doesn't match the deal you lose the draft pick at which the team tendered him.
