Rainey will be our scatback Dion Lewis style. Hell probably our number 2 since Hardesty is hurt. We are suddenly very thin at RB.

Dan Carpenter was supposed to be in for a tryout tomorrow with Billy Cundiff, but Carpenter will sign with the Bills today instead.

Damn...Cundiff sucks. It pisses me off Heckert didn't want to keep Dawson. Dude is making $2M in San Fran. Bullshit the way he was treated here. Per some articles this weekend, he did want to stay and retire a Brown.

Hopefully rainey is done being a POS. I love his talent.

Edit: I thought it was Chris Rainey, ex POS steelers RB. Turns out its Bobby Rainey from Western Kentucky. We also picked up another RB Johnson. Glad we got some RB help bc Brandon Jackson looked like shit running out there. Outside of Trich, our RBs left a lot to be desired after Lewis was hurt.

cundiff, saw a stat today that says his career number of 50 yards plus is 5-21. yikes. and we let Phil Dawson walk. What a joke.

Cundiff is $800k, Dawson was $3mil. All about the money.

Disagree. Heckert never tried to sign Phil. Per jay feely, Dawson wanted to retire a brown. Turns out they didn't cut an Oline today, they put Pinkston on the temporary reserve list. Earliest he can be back is Nov 3rd

We have lombardi, he also didn't try and resign Dawson. Dawson wanted the big pay check and neither regime wanted to give it to him. I don't disagree. I wanted him to retire a brown and all but he's a fucking kicker. I don't want to screw up cap to overpay an aging vet that could fall off at any moment. Kickers are like bullpen/closers in baseball. Historically unreliable from year to year except for a few exceptions. Rather spend the money on TDs than FGs.

Yea, actually just read another article where banner said it was time to move on. Prob money related, but they're still way under cap. Oh well. Maybe we won't need him to kick any 50+ fg's

Im glad they invested in talent that produced all of 1 TD last season (Bess). Should of kept Dawson, even for the price. Kickers win and lose a lot of games.

How many first downs did Bess produce Pick6? Also would you rather have Bess start the season at #2 WR (vet who produces) or Travis Benjamin? Give me a Joe J vet WR whos on the field a hell of a lot more than a kicker.

Dont get me wrong I like Bess. Just wish they would of handled the kicking situation better. Not scrape up some scrub that nobody else wants who has been traded/waived/claimed 13 different times during his 11 year career.

Amen.

Even if it cost them $5-6 Million a year for 2-3 years so he could retire a Brown, they could have front loaded it with the signing bonus for the hit to be mostly this year.

We have $26 million in cap room still as of Aug 23rd according to ESPN's John Clayton. You can carry some over, but there was more than enough there to pay Dawson this year without it being a long term albatross or alter the team's planning.

Dawson being so good has made us take for granted how fickle the kicking position can be when you don't have a good one.

On a cap related note, does anyone think Mack is gone after this season?

We have a ton of cap room still, and you would think an extension for him would be done by now. He is one of the better centers in the league, and it seems foolish to let him hit the FA market as someone is bound to overpay him which drives the price up of keeping him if that is what we wanted.

I am all for responsible cap management, but it seems there is no strategy right now other than to just hoard cash for the sake of hoarding cash.

It was a slam dunk. Along with my dubbing of Jhonny Peralta as "Moon Pie." :)
