For starters, correct me if i am wrong, but i thought it was suppose to last from 6-7:30? Well this typically lasts barley an hour. I'm sorry, but it takes me 50 minutes. to get there, i spent most of my time traveling. The guys i brought asked me, "why is it ending so early, we have barley been here?" The other two places that held it lasted closer to 8. My other issue is that the mats were only mopped once! Hello! Fungus! I know a bunch of people who got impetigo from there open mat. I really hope that Davidsons open mat is run better than Darby. And yes i do know that Darbys coach took time out of his schedule to host this but why not host it well?
I will go ahead and address these comments; but first of all, I am extremely open to ideas and criticisms, so I appreciate where you are coming from, but I do prefer that these conversations are held face to face. Either way, let me see if I can help mend this fence a little.
I guess I will begin with the cleaning of the mats. That room has been bleached twice this month and mopped the day of each open mat session. Maybe the mats were not wet when you first arrived, but I assure you that they were mopped either earlier in the day or before the session began. Also, I am not sure who you know that received impetigo from that room, but if that is true I would appreciate that knowledge rather swiftly so we could make adjustments to the room to ensure that we stop the problem... We take that very seriously. I do know of a few kids that received impetigo, but it was from a team camp that was not held at Darby (the kids have not been on our mats at all this Month). So, hopefully we cleared that up, because we really do take skin infection seriously.
Secondly, and once again, I appreciate your input about the open mat; I would like to attempt to explain our thinking and observation about how they are run. The first two open mats, we shut down at the 75th minute due to a large number of kids were done for the day. We noticed that it was typically the 65th minute that the laces were getting untied. So, we tried to adapt to the personnel and give them what they wanted so they would continue to come back. We would rather have these kids keep coming back and get 260 minutes of mat time (4 sessions) as opposed to 90 minutes of mat time (1 session). That is the observation and discussions that we had (believe it or not, there is some thought that goes into this), but that does not mean that we were right. Actually if it were completely up to me, the last two weeks of July and the whole month of August would only be an hour long and it would be all drilling, no live at all; but then we would have an empty room because even I know that is pretty boring.
Lastly, it is said at the 65th minute the last two weeks of these open mats, "that is all that we have for you, but the room is still open" and there have been no takers to continue wrestling. We took that as a hint that they were ready to be finished. Once, again we could be wrong, but that was our thought process in order to keep more kids involved. I am sure Coach Disabato will run them differently and maybe that will be more of what you are looking for. Please let me know if I can help out in any other way. Have a good day.
