I look at him as just outside of the top eight as far as skills go. Now, I guess he could place if a couple of them knock off each other, but it's hard to argue him being one of the eight best guys at the weight. I could see him taking eighth, winning in the first round and then losing to Barber in the quarters and then beating the winning of Ransom and Davis to place. Honestly, as I look at it, he got a great draw to place. Compare that to Matt Hammer (who has a win over Newhouse) who will likely win his first one and then lose to Forrider and then have to beat Ryan to place (same goes for Ryan and Newhouse who have to go through each other with the loser getting the loser of Forrider/Hammer to place).

Im really proud of Jake and how he handled it with class. Going out for the 5th place match wazs very tough for him and he battled thru it.
We had a talk and I told him how some things in life arent going to go his way and wont seem fair but some how you will need to plow thru it. Going thru this adversity will build character and make him stronger in life. The sun will rise and set tomorrow and life will go on.
We talked about being a state alternate and being ready just in case...the last thing he wants to do is cut down again, but sure enough the kid went to the gym today and is back with his team right now working out again just in case. I dont think I could do that! The kid is taking it better than me lol.
I love you son! Im so proud of you! You had a great season with some big wins over some great kids and some tough losses along the way to great kids!

Congrats to Seth McCurdy on what was an unbelievable move and match! I didnt get a chance to see you last night, but told your Dad to tell you.

As far as cutting down one more time "just in case", ask the district alternate who had the opportunity to make it into the district bracket last Friday at Darby when one of the wrestlers from his sectional did not make weight. Oh wait.....that's right......he did not practice all week and was not even in attendance at Darby when his name was called over the loudspeaker. Very few ever get a 2nd chance, and it's a shame that his was wasted. I'm so glad Jake is not going to go down that road! Probably the best thing to get right back into that room!

As far as "the kid is taking it better than me".....definitely the truth. Kids are very resilient....more so than we give them credit for. Tougher on us old folks because we love them so much.....but then that's not a bad thing.
