Does anyone else find it a tad strange that one of the "premier" high school wrestling programs in the nation has only 20 kids on the roster before their Fall preview? There were 26 kids introducing themselves at the meet and greet a couple weeks ago. What happened? Why can't Graham field a competitive "B" team? We've got open enrollment. Why don't more kids want to wrestle for coach Jordan?
Because of lack of interest? Wrestling is not a sport, especially in Jeff Jordan's practices, where athletes join the team just for the social aspect.
I'm not taking anything away from anyone, I'm just saying I know how intense Jeff Jordan's practices are. I've heard stories when Jim and Jeff Jordan were a part of the Graham high school teams they had "introductional" practices the first week. The friends who thought "it would be fun" to give wrestling a try, quickly were made aware of the fact wrestling isn't a fun game. They were influenced to quit the team.
Graham has a returning state placer not on the team because he does not enjoy wrestling as much as other sports. Trying to get Jeff Jordan to "go easier" on the team isn't going to happen, either.
