Trying to order brand new singlets this year and gave my AD a rough draft of what we had and the singlet was red/gray/black (black is not the dominant color but would be very noticeable). He told me that we were not allowed to use black in our "uniforms" if it is not one of the schools primary colors per the rule books. This is no where in the NFHS rule book so I have no idea what "rule book" he is referring to? Our football team has black in their uni's so I see no problem with it being in ours. The AD is also a basketball guy so I'm sure he's quoting one of their rules because I've never heard of this before in wrestling.

So other than complaining can someone clarify this for me and is it a legit rule? I also did not see it anywhere on OHSAA website either.

I have no clue but it doesn't sound like a legit rule. I think the guy is blowing smoke.

If black is not one of your school colors...why in the world would you want to get dominately black singlets? Trying to disassociate yourself from your respective school?

It's NOT a dominant color in the singlet, more of an accented color but it is noticeable.

I remember wrestling a kid with a black/white zebra singlet my senior year. Pretty sure their colors were not black and white, and 100% sure their mascot was not a zebra.

Yeah fab1b I looked through it last night and didn't see it, wanted to be sure I wasn't overlooking something or if OHSAA had something I wasn't seeing either

If its an OHSAA specific rule it would be located in the gray officials book. Nothing like that in Fl as long as its school issued and meets inseam guidelines and such we are good to go here. See a lot of schools singlets that have "non" school colors.

Fab-I coached at Winter Springs HS in Fl in 2010, that's why I had to ask to see if OHSAA changed rules on me since I was gone.

But I talked to officials and they said no such rule exist in wrestling so I'll assume he had his sports mixed up. Thanks for all the help to everyone.
