Yes, he was used sparingly during the season. I can't remember the exact circumstance as I was home from college for that game.

It seems like you guys have more of a problem with the losing and are directly relating it to coaching.

We all knew this was going to be a rough year, honestly I'm not surprised what our record is. I'm just as frustrated about losing than anyone, but 1 bad season doesn't call for a complete overhaul of the program.

I don't have a problem with it as it makes no difference to me. It's rather amusing to see you guys cringe after all your tall talk. And you know it's killing you to see the Riders lose to WCAL teams and Triway, despite how few and far it happens.

As far as program overhaul, well even you and yours have been crying about the predictable plays and play-calling, but when someone you either don't like or know says it, you get defensive and start crying about player/coach bashing.

Where were you when your buddies posted? old rider #1207 and rrfan #1212.

Fantastic50 says we have the 4th toughest strength of schedule in all of D-4.

The 4 teams that have beat us are a combined 16-4...and WH will bring a perfect 5-0 record to town this week.

Unfortunately I have not been able to see the Red Riders play this year so I can't address some of the discussion. One thing I can address is the questioning of the competence of Coach Haley and his ability to teach kids how to tackle. REALLY? Show me a coach in a DIV program with the track record of coach Haley in developing defensive players. I'll give you a bit of a pass because maybe you were ticked off after a loss. I've been there and done that, but you need to rethink that statement.
Also saw a couple jabs about a kid not knowing how to play a certain position correctly....coaches would probably agree with you on a few of those players but my guess is that is the best we have available and all you can do is keep coaching and hope he gets better. Orrville picked a bad year to struggle given our level of competition. Keep working Riders. Every game is a new opportunity to challenge yourself. Five Knots and crew are pulling for you every week

5knots I hope you are able to attend a game this year and let us know your true opinion. Like I have said it is not the wins and losses that bother me it is the repeated lack of knowing the game from the leader that really does. Let me give you one of numerous examples: 2 years ago in the playoff game against Triway we had the game won and got the ball back with less then a minute on the clock. All we had to do was run the clock out, take a knee or keep it on the ground and Coach Davault was throwing it! Who on earth would do that in that situation? Can you honestly explain that one to me? Everyone in the stadium that night was yelling take a knee!!! Maybe I have the details wrong but thats how I remembered it. There are a lot of excuses going on in Orrville right now talking about a lack of talent and we are undersized and I dont buy any of it! We are smaller than our opponents always!

Well, there was several "jabs" regarding players not knowing their position and the football IQ being lacking. Of course, depending upon who said it made the difference between it having value and/or considered bashing.

Such a comment was made about the backup qb. I feel that since your season is what it is at this point, the starting qb is a senior and you know what you are/aren't going to get from him, don't you think the coach should begin the "grooming" process for your next qb who currently is a sophomore, with some real game experience and teaching him the spread offense if you're insistent on running it.

Most tackiling drills are done during individual position work, I have a hard time blaming the D-coord for that. Now, he is the LB's coach, so if the linebackers aren't tackling, then yes he needs to have those guys doing tackling drills.

However any coach would tell you that not every kid has that aggressive bone and is willing to stick his nose in there and hit someone. A good football player doesn't need daily reminders of how to tackle!

Thoughness CANNOT be taught IMO...you either have it or you don't!

Series- I see where you are going with the QB situation but the more I watch Lichti the more I feel bad for the kid. Probably over 25-30 drops this season and he is consistantly running for his life as he is trying to pick the snap off of the ground. His stats are better if anyone can catch. Just my two cents.

I agree. I would like to see Bryce get more snaps and begin grooming him for next season.

I said 2 weeks ago that I'd be fine with that...so long as its being done to give him the best possible shot to succeed...and I believe that's in a run formation (not the spread) like some sort of read-option look.

like it or not we are stuck with a spread. That is one of the things that angers me , Devault's unwillingness or inability to change the offense. We clearly do not have the talent for the spread offense so why on earth wont he change it to something that fits our type of players. Like the option or the wing T, you don't have to have a lot of size to run those offenses.

All the more reason to run the ball! So sounds like you are saying the center cant snap and the receivers cant catch right? Again then RUN the football and you will NOT be successful running the football all the time out of the shotgun. That is just common sense but then again that is what i am questioning here: COMMON SENSE!

in my opinion coach Haley is the only coach on the staff who really knows how to coach football players. He certainly knows the xs and os part of the game better than the other coaches.
