From twitter...

Jason McIntyre
Wow: Joe Paterno had a team meeting Monday, told the players HE DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT JERRY SANDUSKY, everything came as a surprise to him ... asst coach McQueary was "distraught" and told his players he might be gone before Saturday's game." That's what Kim Jones of Yes (in Happy Valley) just said on WFAN radio

Apparently this has been going on since March.
I thought I read somewhere that Paterno testified 11 months ago, so it might be even longer than that.

So...alums are now burning their diplomas in front of Penn State's main building and a crowd is gathering outside of Joe Pa's house.

Gregg Doyle is standing in the woods behind the house.

I heard on another board that PSU wants Paterno out immediately, but the lawyers have to get involved to work out contract stuff.

I understand the attorney's have taken over at this point but I think they, the University, needs to talk to the students and alumni. Some reassurances of need to be explained with regards to their stance of being appalled and willing to get to the bottom of things with a full cooperation.

The investigation has been on going for 3 years. Grand Jury's can be convened put on hold and reconvened.

Who burns their diploma? I mean, I busted my ass for 4 years to get that.

I get that its only a piece of paper, and you can't take away my education. But its symbolic of my PERSONAL accomplishments.

A corrupt and disgusting football program doesn't change that.

Ohio State = Football players sell their own stuff and get discounted or free tats. The coach finds out and and does nothing about it. The trustees ask the coach to retire, he retires.

Penn State = Child molestation by an assistant coach is ongoing for 15 years. Head coach knows and does nothing to stop the molester. Trustees ask coach to step down, he refuses.

Well, you can get another one if you call the school for a nominal fee... so maybe it's not that big of a deal?

More than just the football program. University president and another administrator involved along with who knows who else.

I'm on a business trip in Washington DC surrounded by a bunch of Penn State and Maryland alums. I thought that most PSU alums were very shocked and outraged over this at first...I'm not so sure if I think that anymore. Many of my cohorts at this meeting that went to Penn State have said something along the lines of 'I don't see why the media is so interested in Paterno, he did everything he could do...' or something akin to that. I've held my tongue most of the time.

This scandal is slowly ruining Penn State. Not just the football program. The Entire university. I feel awful for anyone with ties to Penn State and even moreso for the ones that can't even comprehend how bad this is for their university when they say things like what's above.

Herbie being interviewed on ESPN right now, he looks very distraught. I think most are right now. Good interview, though. You can tell that this situation is incredibly awful. It is one of those times that in one breath you wish none of it never happened but in the next breath know that it needs to be uncovered now that it has. Justice must be done and no person connected to this should be spared because of a tenured coaching career en route to that justice.

Yeah, this seems completely logical.....

Seriously, let's just stop with the desperate excuse-making. Paterno, along with many others, were either negligent or helped cover up a man anally raping young boys. Enough said.
Crimson streak;963589 wrote:The Washington post needs to stfu.
Washington Post is completely right. Let all current players transfer if they want with no repercussion. Fire every member of the coaching staff, shut it down for a couple years while you hire a a new staff(of people you're confident won't cover up child rape this time) and start again in 2013 with new recruits and whichever players decided to stay.

If they have any perspective, and decency as human beings; yes.

Agreed. If this happened at OSU, I wouldn't want my name associated in any way, no matter how minor, until a true effort was made to make things right(or as right as they could be.) That currently hasn't happened at all.

I applaud any PSU fan being clear headed enough to realize their once hero is the scum of the earth. Too many people(as we've seen) with tinted glasses on. For instance....
Mulva;961666 wrote:1. Prosecutors have stated he isn't suspected of anything, and have actually lauded his assistance/cooperation
2. Criminally, according to a yahoo article, failure to report has a maximum sentence of 3 months, but that's irrelevant anyway because he immediately reported what he was told to his superior. So now you're saying a senior citizen who committed no crime should be locked up and sodomized.
3. Paterno stated that what he was told by the grad assistant was nowhere near the level or specifics of what was reported in the grand jury report, and none of us know what he did or didn't actually know.
lol

Let's also keep in mind that Crimson is talking about the same two men telling Paterno to shut up that were the same two men who were allegedly kicked out of Paterno's house and told to shove it when they tried to fire him in 2004. If that story is true, trying to paint a picture where they told him to do anything is a major reach.

Exactly. To act like Paterno was beaten into submission to cover up for his friend is laughable. And the entire attitude of looking for reasons to justify Paterno's actions by people like crimson is completely and totally pathetic.

If this is the end of Paterno at PSU he'll be dead within a year. They guy has nothing but football and once that's gone its over for him. Even if this hadn't come to light, he's wasn't going to be around long after he left coaching.
