I don't think the Illini are really that bad. They beat a pretty good ASU team and really have a lot of great skill athletes. Definitely top 20 material

While last week's game was frustrating, last night's was nauseating..not since the 2006 NC game have I felt like this after a loss. And I apologize up front if I repeat anyone else's comments, because I don't feel like reading any previous posts on this thread.


IMO

1.) While Braxton Miller has a tremendous upside and is going to be a good QB for us, ne needs schooling on how to carry the ball, and short of breaking his ankle, I would've liked to see him make more of an effort (ie fight like hell) to get back on the field. I think the team, particularly the offense, would have fed off of this toughness and fought harder to stay on the field and help maintain their lead.

2.) Excuses will be made and reasons given, but the defense simply imploded late in the game...period.

3.) I know it's prolly been mentioned a thousand times already in this thread, but there HAS to be another option at QB other than Bauserman. If the coaches forgot Guiton or Graham's name, put Jordan Hall behind center for crissakes...I STILL want to vomit :mad:

WE keep forgetting how the momentum changed and the OSU defense was sub par. Say what you may about the shaky offense but the defense completely collapsed.

One of the toughest losses that I've endured during my time as an OSU fan. I never dreamed we'd blow a 21 point second half lead to Nebraska and their QB who throws like a vagina.

I knew we were dead in the water when Miller went out. You could sense that it was emotionally crippling when Miller left and Losserman took over. It just sucked the life out of the OSU sideline. I still don't understand why Losserman is where he is on the depth chart. There is no way Guiton or Graham are any worse than Losserman. Absolutely no freakin' way.

The defense collapsed. No denying that. But I maintain that they were put in tough situations in the 2nd half. Miller's fumble left the Nebraska O with the ball in the redzone. Bollman being in gunslinger mode with Bauserman in and a 2 TD lead did not help things for the D. I thought we should have pounded more with Hyde and Hall to shorten the game for the D. Those were the most unproductive incompletions of all time that Bauserman was throwing. 3 run plays, even if they had no led to any first downs, would have been much more productive than Bauserman throwing the football to the cheerleaders. Horrible game management late in the game. A collapse of this magnitude would have never occured under Tressel IMO.

Now if you excuse me, I've got to go tend to some Bauserman passes that landed in my yard last night.

I know he was not to blame entirely for the loss, but I don't want Joe Bauserman to ever see the field again.

Total "shell shock." I honestly can't recall an OSU collapse even similar to that one. I knew they were done right after Martini's TD after the fumble. You could see it on the field and the sidelines. Fickell has that "oh shit" look on his face from that point on. It's fucking sad. I'm embarrassed.

Well I'd say the Sugar Bowl last year was a huge collapse even though we still pulled it out of our ass.

One of the roughest games I've been to. As soon as Miller got hurt we knew it was probably a loss. The fumble before hurt, but that was the nail in the coffin. Momentum had swung and the awful play calling didn't help. Still can't believe they lost after being up 21 halfway through the third.

21 point lead evaporates in less than a quarter in a half....and you lose by 7...and if they needed to Nebraska could have scored again if it had to. ...SMH. Defense had a deer in the headlights look. I'm not sure what Nebraska did different, but they were swallowing up big chunks of yardage.

I've watched every Nebraska game this year and the offense they ran in the second half (the diamond formation out of the pistol with 3 RBs) was something they haven't done before. Their option and quick hitting run plays with Burkhead out of that formation was shredding the defense apart.

Miller had just gotten a first down and OSU was driving when the ball was ripped away. If they maintain possession, I think they score and Nebraska never recovers (assuming Miller isn't hurt).

For those who don't think the air (and confidence) completely left this TEAM when Bauserman came in, you weren't paying attention. Whether it should happen or not, the defense became tentative and ineffective right after he got hurt. That's not a coincidence.

This team was teetering on the edge, anyway, so it wouldn't take much to have it tip over (and it did).

As for the Illinois game: if Miller is unable to go, it's a blowout loss. If he plays, OSU has a shot. Right now it's just hard to gauge how damaged the entire team is after this meltdown. Have to believe they have zero faith in their coaching staff right now, and thanks to Fickell's "no permanent captains until the end of season" plan (one of his dumbest moves as coach), there are no leaders for the team to turn to.

Not sure which hurt more game wise the fumble or the no call PI in the end zone that would have given us a first down and easily in field goal range, but no matter...the defense was horrid, Bollman and his change of game plan when Super Joe came in the game with a 21 point advantage are more to blame than anything. Read somewhere Bollman's comments after the game...(paraphrased) "If we would have had one more series we would have put in Guiton..." now that is some damn frustrating comment. Just the fact that the guy throws the effer 20 yards over a receivers head should be enough to relegate him to tending the water cooler the rest of the season, but no, Bollman has to wait for fricken 1-10 and pick before he's convinced the dude has no damn place on the playing surface.

I've watched a lot of damn Buckeye football and that was, by FAR, the worst display of a coaching meltdown I have ever witnessed.:thumbdown:

1. This team will have to FIGHT to be a bowl team. This OSU team could be last years Texas team.
2. I have always said this is what it would take for changes. JT won a lot of games, but he should have won more. They were winning in spite of it. But oh how do things change when you start losing because of it.
3. Luke, you won't be getting a gig anywhere after this. You look like your freshman starters. Maybe the next head coach will offer to give you your spot back though. Some guys just aren't head coaching material, and that's okay. Just as long as the higher ups at OSU know this.
4. Miller is fun to watch. He does that awkward stay in bounds please hit me thing that Pryor used to do which is scary/annoying. I still havn't seen a spiral. That's all I heard about him is that he's a good passer. I don't see it yet. But I'll have fun watching the kid grow. I just hope he stays on the field, I know he's a bit injury prone.
5. Joe... you are the worst college player I've ever seen. The guys in street cloths have more receptions than your wideouts do. You look absolutely lost when you come to the sidelines. You're bad, and I think you know it. Shame on your coaches from not protecting you from yourself. If you weren't an old man, I'd call child services on the coaching staff.

9. Christian Bryant had a tough game. Got torched on the first TD pass. Got juked by a white guy for a TD. Then had a personal foul. He's a good player, but last night was a game he'll want to forget.
10. Heacock stayed true to his colors and couldn't make an in game adjustment. He usually waits until halftime, but it was NEB making the changes and he couldn't stop it. His players share a lot of that blame too, but they look out of position the whole second half which wasn't the case in the 1st half.
11. I don't know who I want for the next HC, but that's one of the only things I look forward to now.
12. I look forward to the young guys coming together week by week and hopefully earning the right for more practice time because of a bowl game.

Nebraska also played an AWFUL first half of football. They actually showed up for the 2nd half and it was obvious they are a better football team than OSU. The stars aligned for OSU in the first half while the 2nd half was what was expected coming in to the game.

Oh it had a lot to do with who the QB was. Don't you think had the Bucks been able to get a first down or two, eaten some clock things might have been a little different? Yeah I think so. The D imploded but not holding the ball on offense was a HUGE part of it.

The whole "they got tired" crap should be saved for when it actually applies, hell they were only on the field for about 3-4 minutes the entire first quarter.

As for the game at Champaign next week, I've been to every one of them since I moved out here in 1998 and we have never, never had a breather against the Illini at Memorial Stadium. Even when we had all the studs we barely escaped that place. I don't know what to think about next week's game with the prospect of no Miller. I only hope that, if Miller can't play, the coaching staff (now there's an oxymoron for you) says "Fuck it, we're starting anyone but Bauserman.".


Even though everything points to an Illini rout, it wouldn't surprise me to see the Buckeyes win this one going away. It would be right in line with this up-is-down, down-is-up season. I only know I'll be there, rooting like hell for my Buckeyes.

The thing that REALLY bothers me (and there are many to chose from) is not only did Bollman stop pounding the ball on the ground (when it was working), but he dialed up low-percentage, high risk passes (5 step drops, long passes). If you HAVE to rely on Bauserman (which just gave me a chill to even write that), call some slants or quick hits to instill some confidence in this guy.

I'm not going to beat up Bauserman, he has been a back up to Pryor for years, and he is what he is. Blame the coaching staff. We/they have witnessed what Bauserman can do, and there is no sense investing anymore time in him as he'll be gone next year. Time to give Guiton a chance,...I don't expect him to be much better, but at least the experience and game time may make him better and the team will be better off for it.

Miller needs to take better care of the ball, but that 'no call' gave them the stop and accelerated the change in momentum. Even with that, the defense has got to get the goat horns for this loss. If you would have told me before the game that we would score 27 points, I'd a thought for sure that we would have won.

The Buckeyes had a pretty valiant effort. Miller is the real deal, he would be incredible in the (gasps) Urban Meyer offense. Bauserman is worse than the quarterback I played with at ol' Stritch High. A friend of mine knows Andrew Sweat, and I guess most of the team feels that Kenny Guiton is the guy who needs to be in there instead of Joe.
