I want share a story about Zane , he finished this year 32-2, 23 pins in record times of 3,5,8,8,9,10,10,12,12 seconds, A School, state and national record...I will still remember this season and am proud of them even though the season ended by a secret packet by a secret unnamed group from the school we left.. They are loved at school and at home and they hug every one they meet, Zane is still smiling ear to ear, he is so much like his mother..LOL
I want to share My greatest moment in wrestling though ever from my sports experiences. We were at a fairly large regional tournament Zane wrestled 6 matches and won the tournament. There was a mother of a handicap child getting her son some matches during the day and the refs would work him in and kids would let him score here and there and then they would pin him. He was so proud to just wear that singlet. Zane approached him and said How would you like to wrestle the champion for my Medal? This was all Zane, its who he is.. The match was on! That kid dominated Zane that day! He ended a dominating match and he pinned the champion! The kid arose from Zane on his back and screamed"I'AM A CHAMPION" with both hands fist pumping with Joy! Zane arose and that kid hugged him for 10 seconds! The crowd went wild and the hugs we received that day I will never forget!! Zane then gave the kid his medal and said this is yours you earned it today you beat the Champ. I sob just telling that story again because the day my son got pinned was the best wrestling moment of my life. The twins will be ok because the OHSAA, hate groups, internet forums, technicalities, news papers, is not why we do this sport and those values that drive us will not be affected by this pot hole in time. Wrestling and the heart of a wrestler is a way of life that will outlast this bad moment and circumstance! We will see you all at State either wrestling or helping others wrestle you will never see us trying to hurt or stop a wrestler...they work to hard!
Why do we wrestle, twin 2 Zack,
To be fair let me share a story about Zack. Its 6th grade and Zane had Just won his 17th match in row, Zack had just lost his 17th match in a row. Identical twins , Identical records....Almost! LOL 17-0/0-17. On the way home Zack was bragging his brothers great day up and was proud of how great his brother was at wrestling. i was feeling terrible for little Zack. I told Zack that I was proud of him and that he didn't have to wrestle just because his brothers all did maybe there is something else you would like to try? Zack looked at me and said "Dad I wrestle because I really like it I don't care if I win or lose I want to be a WRESTLER! Again the tears swelled in my eyes and my young son taught me a lesson that day. It is not wether you win or lose but how you handle and love what you do. That little boy was proud of his brother without one once of envy and was proud of being a wrestler.
That little boy that this dad did not think was a wrestler is now 76-6 career as a sophomore. Edged his brother out last year as the TUSLAW MVP as only a freshman, Had 211 Takedowns which smashed the all time Tuslaw record by 50 takedowns and ended his freshman season with 45 wins the second most wins in a season in school history and was only a freshman. That little 0-17 6th grader Taught this Dad another lesson ...Never underestimate the dream of a loving faithful child who's unselfish love for a brother and a sport he loves over came the doubts of even his own father who thought he knew something...
