Turnovers are gonna happen. Hard to complain about a kid like Monheim who is a workhorse. Mistakes will happen. My point all along is if you have a bad game with penalties its up to the coaches to hold the kids accountable. If a kid is not disciplined enought to not jump early on the defensive line time after time why would you as a coach keep him in there? Let me answer that for you: Because nobody says anything to him. Its not rocket science to figure out this teams issues. Again watch Davault the entire game and give me some good reasons why he is nowhere near his team on most plays. He is separated out on an island and doesnt speak to anyone. Watch it next friday and if im wrong than I will accept it but it happens every game. How on earth can he discipline anyone when he doesnt talk to them? The only guy I really see out the there coaching is Jason Haley. He is an amazing coach. The rest of these guys are just decoys! SLy Slaughter is thinking about basketball while on the football field. I think Steiner is good too but just not sold on the rest. Maybe they can change my mind but not banking on it.

This team is not disciplined? Really? When you say discipline I think of goofheads that do things on and off the field that take away from the team. We have had plenty of trouble with that the past few years. Kids missing practice, ridiculous personal foul penalties, punches thrown resulting in ejection, etc. This team is as disciplined a team as we have had for some time.
Now if you mean "focus" which I suspect is what you are meaning. We do have issues. Why? Well we still have a lot of kids playing their first ever varsity football, we faced a very crafty veteran QB. He showed his experience on the hard cadence penalties we had. (3-4 of 'em) On that point I will never criticize our Nose for one of those per game. His quickness is his asset and no one can say he has not been stellar. The other one I remember was a kid who never played Varsity football and no football at all last year, the third I remember was a Senior linemen playing D-line for the first time. Coaches definitely need to work on this

Secondly, two of our senior leaders had fumbles that cost us the game. Dillon's was trying to get that extra yard, Mason's was a combination of that same thing as well as the fact I think the wrong formation was called as to what side he should be on. Davault was trying to get Kyle's attention and then a second before the ball was snapped he tried to call a timeout from the sideline but did not get it in time. Hindsight, just call the dang timeout and get the play right. that was the game right there. Worst case scenario we kick an extra point field goal and win. I am sure he would agree with that. Now if you want to argue with me that Mason Monheim is not focused or disciplined out on the field, I'll have that argument any day. He had a dropped pass, got caught leaning for a procedure call, and crucial fumble. That has nothing to do with his discipline or focus. Some of our Seniors are overplaying a bit trying to make up for a younger and inexperienced guys...they need to have confidence in their team mates and just play your position some of it probably is fatigue and that is what you get when you have some of our kids out there for 100+ plays, but that is how we win here. It is what it is.

Much of Kyle's trouble was snap. They were all over the place. Trevor is doing a fantastic job at center, but we need to give him a pass Friday, that was a very slick ball, not wet enough to get the ball wet and tacky, but wet enough to just make it real slick. That was his first time experiencing a slick ball. He will do better job next time I am sure. He is a gamer.

We will be fine. We do have to change things offensively. We rely too much on big plays. We need to get better for sure.

5 knots im definitely not gonna argue with you as far as Mason goes with focus and discipline. Can you answer me one question though about our coaches? Why on earth if you have a player on offense with the speed and athleticism of Stewart Turner can we not figure out a way to get him the ball? Im not blaming Lichti for this. Im having a hard time with the lack of a good playbook. A wildcat formation? A sweep when he gets the ball and gets a good block? Give me something with this. Lichti is struggling yes but why are we putting all the pressure on him when Copley clearly couldnt stop the run in the first half. We chose to put the ball in the air anyway and destroyed a kids confidence that already was lacking a bit. Im simply asking that if everyone in the stands can figure out the obvious, then why cant our coaching staff?

Just keep this in mind.....we are dealing with kids here. Sometimes with kids you can tell them something and 10 seconds later they do just the opposite???? sound familiar. I agree there are things we can do better. That includes coaching and play calling. I have confidence we will. Hang in there.

Here's a positive for us Riders. 3 games and we given up a net 63 whopping yards rushing on 76 attempts. And this game the kid was averaging 200+ game and has offers from Tennessee and Illinois. If we can keep that up and with the way our nose is pressuring QB's we may not have to score a lot. hahaha.

Absolutely, we were 2-1 last year after 3 game and did quite well, get the bad game out of the way wake and enjoy the season. There are only 4 teams at 3-0 in our region so get ready for the schedule ahead and minimize the mistakes and we should be alright.

The Riders will be fine. It's rare to go undefeated in a year. 5k is correct. The young guys on this team are still learning and growing. Nobody can argue with the quality of our senior leadership. I was sitting almost diorectly behind Davault, He and the coach next to him was making a motion somewhat like throwing a right-hook over their head immediately prior to the snap of the ball. I've never seen a time-out call such as that. I also heard someone in the stands say that Monheim was due for a fumble, right before he fumbled.

With +/-30 players on the sideline, does it not make sense to try to work some of those guys into the game to;
A-Spell some of the starters that play 100+ plays
B-Get those younger, inexperienced players some much needed experience so that each man can "play their position"

Why is it necessary to post hearsay ("due for a fumble") - its not acceptable in court - so same goes for us readers. No value is added to the forum.

I agree! He has too many games under his belt to let a "slick" ball affect him IMO. I do think the slick ball gave our center some issues as this is his first season ever at that position, but he will get that worked out (and hopefully Kyle does also if it truly was a slick ball giving him fits)!

I would agree as well that it was not the complete factor, just an issue that threw things off a bit....quite a bit as it looked?

I'll put it this way. "Slick ball" would be either wet from rain/snow, perspiration/sweat or new ball. If it was because the ball/balls were new, one would think that the coaches would/should have practiced the center and qb in conditions as close to possible so that the players can get acclimated to those issues.

It wasn't "necessary" to post it! I posted it because I heard someone say it, and then he did it! This isn't court! And perhaps, his play is somewhat predictable just as some say that Coach Davault's play-calling is predictable. It was obvious to many in the stands that Davault was going to keep running Monheim to the right, which he did, and obviously, the Copley coaches knew it also!

This team lacks discipline or focus whatever you want to call it. The same mistakes every game come on . This has happend over and over for the past few seasons. Other teams do not seem to make these mistakes. It does not matter how much experience the kids have on varsity it happens every year regardless of experience level. It boils down to coaching , having these kids ready mentally every game.

Well, you will be happy to know the staff is addressing the focus issue quite a bit in practice this week. We will see if it pays off Friday. I will stick up for these kids through it all for obvious reasons. We can always do better...always. It comes down to making plays. As bad as we played Offensively Friday we still win if Mason doesn't fumble. I have already said that Series. You have to make plays when it counts and we didn't. Kids and coaches go back to work and try to improve and come out against another DII opponent and see if we can muster a win. I believe our defense will give us a chance to win every game. We need to find some consistency on offense. I know that sounds like a broken record but it is what it is.

Most of my posts were to try to put an end to the bashing and move on. Nothing will do that like a win over Lex.

Davaults play calling is very predictable , it never changes. Fridays predictions : more offsides penalties, more false starts, more overthrown short passes, no getting the ball to Turner,[which baffels the mind by the way] and more bone head play calling.

Hope your right about the focus, it's ashame it took this long to address though. It was a shame to lose to them after the way our defense dominated them. I really think the better team lost, it just came down to the same old mistake we always make.
