So are we now wondering who will be our qb? Last time I checked Kyle was our starter and was showing a lot of improvement from last year.


I agree RR1, last year we ran to set up the pass....I think this year will be more pass to set up the run (tell me if I'm wrong for those who have been able to attend). With a new offensive line and our receivers back along with the qb, in theory it would mean more passing.

Whoever is taking snaps will be getting support from me....it is not easy being the quarterback at Orrville, and that's a fact!

He needs to get rolling early and hit some easy, early completions to build his confidence. He has playmakers around him but needs to be decisive and be open to pulling the ball down and running when that opportunity is presented.

Im all for creating more plays to get Stu Turner the ball. He is way too talented to only touch it 5-6 times per game. Someone tell Sly to get creative!

Hearing that Stew took some reps at tailback this week. Might see him getting the ball with Mason as a lead blocker. We have some options out of the backfield but an inexperienced line may make it tough sledding until some combination of linemen can gel.

Got to see the new lights in operation tonight. Big improvement in the amount of focused lighting. No more "dead" spots on the field.

thought kyle did a descent job last year.... with a year under his belt, i thought the job was his....i really didnt think the run set up the pass...i thought it was pretty balanced....correct me if im wrong

We will have to be as creative as we can to get our playmakers the ball. However, being to creative causes confusion up front and we are very inexperienced in that area, so the last thing we can do is confuse them even more.

Whoever ends up as the starting QB will need time to throw and the line will need to make holes to run through...time will tell if we have some kids that can do that. It all starts up front!

We're ranked 2nd in the initial JJHuddle D-4 preseason poll behind Kenton. Kenton's QB Maty Mauk was just named a preseason MaxPreps 1st Team All-American.

I put as much stock in that ranking as I did when the Cleveland Plain Dealer picked Triway to make the state finals in football last year.

...grain of salt. We haven't proved a thing yet.

1beast, last year we were probably the most balanced team since 1998...and we all know the result of that year. We had really good season a year ago, but our running game did set up our passing game. I say that because we ran a lot of playaction and made deep throws to both Stew and Drew. This year I think we are going to have to start passing out of the gate to set up our running game. We have a new o-line and we lost a darn good RB in Davis. I really like that idea of having stew taking handoffs and have Mason leading the way for him.

Their is no doubt in my mind that the coaching staff is going to put the players in the best position to succeed on the field and in life.

I hate preseason "hoopla" because anything can happen in the course of a season. We just got thrown a major curveball with Davis, we now need to see who is going to step up. We have the kids to be special, but I want us to do the talking on the football field.

I wouldnt go as far back as 1998 in terms of balance. Last year was more like 2006 in terms of talent and balance.

'06 offense was better but '10 defense was better.

Every year you trade some parts and hope you can replace what you lost. It's all about chemistry and that changes from year to year.

I wouldn't consider the 2006 offense to be balanced...Our rushing yards came from when Kyle simmons would scramble...Cortez only had I believe 500 rushing yards, add Kyle's 900 yards that is still only 1,400 yards rushing to 3,000 yards passing. We relied on Kyle for everything that year offensively....and he did a great job for us, we just weren't as balanced as you think. More productive yes, more balanced no. :D

Last year, if we wanted to run the ball we could and did, if we wanted to pass the ball we could and did. It was more 2,000 yards rushing, 2,000 yards passing. The balance last year was a lot better in terms of numbers than 2006.

This year I thought we'd have a balanced distribution of the ball on the ground between Mason and Davis. Last year if Mason didn't block in the backfield, Trey wasn't about to do it. Now it may be more of the same unless we find someone willing to block. Who are the players replacing Matt?

on offense? Hearing Nick Graber will be used as the upback....Joel Zook and Stew Turner will be getting carries at HB, with Mason as a lead block.

On defense, hearing a lot of shuffling, everything from Dylan Lemon, Trevor Summers, Zook...all moving around to replace Matt.

It's not just Matt that we lost, it's 3 or 4 other guys having to possibly leave their slotted positions for a brand new one...and have about 10 days to get comfortable in a new role.

It's like pulling teeth trying to get an update on how the team is doing, everything being kept on the down low....


What was the score when the ones were in?
If we scored...how and by who?
Did anyone standout, or impress you, any of the young guys?
who is our starting line? How did they do?


Glad to hear the improvement from the last scrimmage. Can't wait for next Friday night!

I am chatting with Rider77 and he was at the scrimmage. He says defense looked pretty good. Offense needs to be more balanced...didn't run the ball very well, although Zook broke a nice 25 yard TD. Score was 20-7 at the half. Brenner scored on a nice diving catch (about 40 yards). Weaver with a 40 some yard fade catch for a TD. Lichti looked pretty good. He looked like a second year starting QB. Who really knows how good Louisville is? If they are a typical Louisville team, then we made a pretty good showing. If you have any questions, post them up because we are still chatting!

Louisville played it close to the vest and took their good qb out after 2 series. They ran a spread offense and without their one qb weren't as effective. Monheim may have been the reason because a few others paid the price of not getting out of bounds fast enough. We substituted freely on our lines using a couple centers and different combinations of tackles and guards. A couple of possible starters didn't play due to being banged up. Offense wasn't real effective running, but we weren't going to show any trick plays either. Some problems getting the snap to the qb, but that's just reps. Kicking game looked ok.

There are some really good positives from the scrimmage last night. Skilled postions are really looking good and fast. Monheim was a beast on the defensive side of the ball. We have to gel quickly and improve on the o line. It is the biggest question this team has.

Can't wait until Friday.
