Padres load the bases in the top of the 1st against Barry Zito. The Reds need SD to win and ATL to lose. Somehow avoiding Philly in the long series would be best.

Is it possible the Phillies are going at it with Atlanta for they don't want to face Cincy in the 1st round?
Doubtful...but a thought.

Today is a big game. If the Phils beat the Braves and the Padres hang on, I see Philly playing everyone tomorrow and hoping to knock Atlanta out of the playoffs. If the Braves clinch today, the Phils will rest most everyone tomorrow I would think. Phillies about to score in Atlanta. San Diego up 4-0 in the 6th.

Ideally for the Reds, this occurs.
The Padres win today and tomorrow in San Francisco. Both finish at 91-71. Then...
If Atlanta loses today and tomorrow, then the Padres and Giants would play another game on Monday, in San Diego, to determine the NL West Champion and the Wild Card Winner. The Reds would travel to the winner of that game, while the loser would go to Philadelphia.
If Atlanta splits their final two games, there would be a 3-way tie at 91-71. The Giants and Padres would still determine the NL West in San Diego on Monday, and the loser of that would then play Tuesday night in Atlanta to determine the wild card winner. This would then mean the Reds could still avoid Philadelphia if the Braves were to lose the wild card game.
On a side note however, this could mean a nightmare week for either San Diego or San Francisco. They could play Monday for the NL West, Tuesday for the wild card and then start a series in Philadelphia on Wednesday where they get Roy Halladay. Talk about not being able to rest before the playoffs!
Tune in folks!

If the Padres sweep and the Reds win tomorrow the loss yesterday is going to really sting.

Or the 1-0 loss in Travis Wood's home debut. Or the blown leads in Philly and Atlanta. Or the opening game against Kansas City. Or the Sunday Cordero blow up against the Pirates. Or the 2-0 loss vs the Astros when Lance Berkman got his only big hit of the season. Or the disaster of a series in Seattle against an absolutely pitiful team. The list goes on...a lot of W's left on the field for the Reds in 2010.

Phillies strike first in Atlanta in the top of the 7th. They may tack on more. Padres still up 4-1 in San Fran. Looking good for Cincy today.

Right, but yesterday was the most recent and had the playoff seeding implications going in.

San Diego beats San Francisco 4-2. Philadelphia is rolling Atlanta in the 8th, 5-0. After today...
San Francisco, 91-70 vs Mat Latos
San Diego, 90-71 vs Jonathan Sanchez
Atlanta, 90-71 vs Cole Hamels
It's going to come down to the final day.

So in like 25 words or less...what do we need tomorrow to not face Philly? And is there any chance we can get home field advantage?

Or, the Padres and Braves both lose. Then, San Diego to beat Atlanta Monday. The Reds would then go to San Francisco.
