Southern Cal's new Athletic Director, Pat Haden, when asked about considering independence and BYU's move: “...would we every consider it? I think you have to. As an athletic director in today’s environment, you have to consider every alternative.”

Perhaps the mega-powers of college football will want their own pie (read: TV network). Technology is getting to the point where any huge program could have their own television network (Notre Dame, Texas, Ohio State, Michigan, Southern Cal, etc.) and arguably make more money than splitting with other teams.
The likelihood of this happened? .0001%. But you'd be a fool to not think they aren't crunching the numbers on a television network anyway.
