Southern Cal's new Athletic Director, Pat Haden, when asked about considering independence and BYU's move: “...would we every consider it? I think you have to. As an athletic director in today’s environment, you have to consider every alternative.”

Perhaps the mega-powers of college football will want their own pie (read: TV network). Technology is getting to the point where any huge program could have their own television network (Notre Dame, Texas, Ohio State, Michigan, Southern Cal, etc.) and arguably make more money than splitting with other teams.

The likelihood of this happened? .0001%. But you'd be a fool to not think they aren't crunching the numbers on a television network anyway.

They may be crunching the numbers, but I seriously doubt this statement by Haden has as much to do with actually considering the possibility as much as it does with doing whatever he can to try and keep USC in the foreground rather than the background going into three years of irrelevance.

Once they see the money they'll get from the new Pac-10 network they'll realize that they couldn't make nearly as much as an independent with their own TV network.

Bizaar . We all know greed runs everything . Look at ND . Boy did they catch a break with coach Kelly or they would have eventually had to submit to the BIG TEN . I like confrences , I like bowl games . I love news years day and the Rose bowl . College football is great to watch . I like traditions ,but sooner or later playoffs will prevail and our bowl season will be watered down ,its all about the bennies
