posted by jmogWhen poor areas have some remodeling done and higher price homes, which by your definition would raise the level of the schools, the left decries it as gentrification and it’s a terrible thing.
When you build poor housing in a nicer area the right decries it as lowering the value of the area and schools.
Neither are 100% right or wrong in their stance. But they are both hypocritical in their solidarity.
I know if I live in a run down area (have been there) I wouldn’t mind if the houses around me get built up as it raises the value of my home. If I lived in a nicer area I wouldn’t want the opposite. I wouldn’t want section 8 housing right next to me. Not because of race, but due to killing my property value.

I didn’t make my comment to you .. you commented to me. I was just repeating what my original post said

DC does the same thing with section 8 housing in affluent/gentrified areas and there are shootings all the time in those areas. I have heard several shootings near the houses I lived in DC, and some were only one block away. These are neighborhood blocks, where row houses are going for $700K-$1M (pre covid). I don't think these policies do what you think they do.
You're fixated on the "black on black" aspect, but the original point of the Chicago argument is to point out strict gun laws do not work. There are other cities that can be used as an example, but Chicago is the go to argument.
Also, it is a little dated now, but 10 years ago a survey was done by Harvard surveying economists on all parts of the political spectrum (left/right/moderate) and 93% agreed that rent control reduces the quantity and quality of housing available.

I am willing to be wrong, but I doubt putting section 8 housing next to $250,000 homes won’t lower the value of the nicer homes.

What incentive do landlords have to improve housing if they can't increase rent to help pay for the cost? They're just supposed to do it out of the goodness of their hearts and eat the cost?
I have seen government controlled housing move into small communities, it brings nothing but drugs, violence and general misconduct.
An informative thread that includes Chicago and low income housing.
just wanna talk real quick about how we get to "public housing" as a highly stigmatized, not-so-subtle dog whistle for "low-income Black people," instead of what it could be-- a public good benefitting people of all backgrounds--in the context of Chicago history.

I’m not fixated on it but it gets brought up every day here is why I said it
I’d just like to point out, these people are mad at their communities and they’re like vote for change! But the people in charge are already in their party. No change is coming.

Safe bet most of the protestors don't vote in their local elections (turnout in local elections averages like 20%!!!!).
I think what's more alarming is, despite the complaints about local officials, people don't vote and instead increasingly look to DC to fix their local problems.
Remember, Trump is a fascist - gets a frickin' PANDEMIC which is tailor-made to seize and abuse power....and he ran away from it. Then gets criticized for not trampling all over the Constitution.

Your last paragraph is dead on correct.
Just a local BLM group terrorizing an immigrant owned business. Demanding local businesses hire black people and buy their inventory from black owned business or they will leave bad reviews on review sites/ mess with your business. Definitely a way to get people on your side.

I dont get why you would protest a business because you dont agree with something you dont like.
Wouldnt you just decide to not shop there? Couldnt you just open your own business and do what you are asking them to do?
Imagine being the mainstream media and trying to defend these two for throwing Molotov cocktails at police cars. And imagine being a professional in your 30s and being this fucking dumb

Rapbangers now shooting 'em up in the Gold Coast neighborhood; unbelievable.......right on Oak St. If the mayor of Chicago is not removed from office they will lose Michigan Ave. Sickening.

I guess you were to busy keeping up with black on black crime to keep up with this white guy shooting an ak 47 at police because he had “pandemic depression” or maybe it really not about supporting the police after all
