Funniest movie

So the Animal House meme got me thinking that it's probably still my favorite comedy.  But I go back and forth with it and Slapshot and Caddyshack.

Does anyone have a favorite comedy from the last 20 years?  I feel like a lot of comedy these days is just slapstick and cheap gags.

That said, I think Anchorman and The Hangover were hilarious.  And Wedding Crashers. Those are about the only 3 I can come up with off the top of my head.

Technically a superhero movie, but Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the funnier movies from the past decade.

Here's a list of comedies since 2000. I would say Step Brothers is probably my favorite. Idiocracy, Super Troopers, Wet Hot American Summer, Anchorman would round out my top 5.

I haven’t seen a lot of the funny ones from this century. Hangover was hilarious.

40 Year Old Virgin had some hilarious scenes.

Meet The Parents

Within or very close to the timeline I’ll take those.

There’s something About Mary was around 98 I think.

Anger Management? Maybe catches this timeframe.

Meet the Parents is a good one.

My all time favorite is Old School.

Forgot about Meet The Parents.  All 3 are frickin' hilarious.  American Pie was 1999.  Otherwise, I still feel like the last 15-20 years have been pretty weak for good comedies.

And that Rolling Stone list kind of sucked.  I would not want to watch movies with whomever wrote that article.

I’ve probably quoted Animal House more than any other, except maybe Blazing Saddles.

I’m also a fan of Idiocracy.

All-time I’m going with Dumb and Dumber….saw it in theater and swear missed 1/3 of the movie from the theater’s laughter. I’ve never been to a movie where the whole place just lost control.

Ever? Dumb and Dumber.

Last 20 has more than I think people realize, but the last 5 years have been really weak. In fact, not sure any of the ones I list below are from any later than 2011?? American Pie and There's Something About Mary just miss this century, but would both rate extremely high. TSAM might top Wedding Crashers for me as the best.

  • Meet the Parents

  • Wedding Crashers (I think this is almost a perfect comedy for the first 1:20)

  • Anchorman
  • Old School
  • Hangover
  • Superbad
  • Super Troopers
  • Step Brothers
  • Horrible Bosses
  • Waiting...
  • Forgetting Sarah Marshall
  • EuroTrip
  • Best in Show

Not a whole lot to add, agree with most of the above. One of my favorites that doesn’t usually get mentioned in top lists is Grandma’s Boy. Would never put it at number 1 but solid.

Edit to add, are their any comedies from the last 5 years that rank amongst anything from the 90s/ early 2000s?

Totally forgot about There's Something About Mary and Forgetting Sarah Marshall.  Those were absolutely hilarious movies.  Going to have to add those to my movie cue.

Actually, that whole decade starting with Meet The Parents is really good.  So like you said, it's maybe the last 10-12 years that have been weak.

I went back and looked. Of the movies I listed, the newest on was Horrible Bosses in 2011. So, unless I am blanking on a few the last decade, its been really bleak.

Flip side, that is actually a crazy deep and great run for comedies in the first decade (2000-2011).
