So ESPN rolls out a list of most dominant athletes over the past 20 years.  What a joke.

Tom Brady number 20?

No Michael Phelps?

Bonds on it.....no Lance Armstrong?  Both drug cheats

Tiger dominant over 20 years?  No....he hasn't.

Bolt at 10?  He has swept 12 year's of Olympics.

More soccer players than any other sport?

Money Mayweather is 50-0.  Shoukdnt he be #1?

I read the list as being the most dominant athletes at some point over the 20 year span as opposed for the whole duration of it. That said, I don’t agree with several. But Tiger at #1 is accurate to me. Some time has passed, but for a 10 year period, he dominated his sport like no one in this window. It wasn’t that he was just better; he was light years better. He was the favorite in every single tournament he played in. That 2000 US Open was the greatest performance I’ve ever seen in any sport.

CCrunner hates Tiger, but no one has ever impacted a sport the way he has golf.

They explain their rationale - whether you agree with it or not - in a follow-up link.

Please.....he isn't even the greatest golfer of all time.  To make your claim he has to be GOAT.  He is not.  Just the best of his generation.  Others on the list can claim that though.  I am not a Brady fan but he dominated football and can claim he is the greatest QB of all time.

I got Jackie Robinson on line 1. He'd like a word with you.

Depends on definition of impact. But Tiger brings the eyeballs 10-fold that anyone else ever has in any sport.

If you want to give Jackie Robinson credit for all the non-white stars as a whole, I’d listen. But even then, not sure the fans gravitate to baseball at a greater clip the way they do golf.

If They were going for impact of coverage and $.....about half of the 20 wouldn't be on there.

Tiger isn’t the greatest golfer of all time in my opinion.  That would be Jack Nicklaus.  However neither Nicklaus in golf, or anyone else in the modern era of professional sports was as dominant as Tiger was from 1999-2005.  Go back and look at the results over that time.  Dominance by a single athlete over a huge field of others never happened like that before or since.

Shocked that I mostly agree with Spock on this.

Not seeing Tiger as #1....I don't follow tennis, but seems like Federer, Nadal and Djokovic have all been more dominant than Tiger - winning more majors than Tiger, while there are two other Tigers dominating your sport at the same time?  Or Serena Williams.

Not sure what planet you could have Manning at #3 and Brady at #20.

Bonds but no Armstrong is interesting, although perhaps there's a loophole that Bonds wasn't stripped of his numbers but Armstrong was?

No Phelps?  No Simone Biles is an even bigger ommision.  Either could make a case for #1, but not even in the top 20?

Tennis you beat your bracket….golf has everyone in the same bracket. Seems tennis down in popularity so being less high end players keeping the 40 year old goats right therein the mix.

Why in the world did a random 3.5 year old thread get brought to the top? What did I miss?

Dang, I thought this was a new thread and then I was just reading through this and had to go back and see who, then, brought it back up.

I was confused as hell lol.

But in topic, tennis is not as hard as gold to win a lot. Serena doesn’t even have the most majors, and like 4-5 women have over 20. I’ll argue till I’m blue that Graff is the greatest women’s player ever. So, yeah, not gonna put a tennis player over some others. But Federer would be who I put there if I were going to.

Tiger not fucking it all up would’ve probably put him top of this. Nobody could touch him for a good 5 years, and probably even longer if I were to dig in.

It’s hard to compare any athlete in a singles sport vs an athlete in a team sport.

I think Phelpps and Katie Ledecky can claim as much dominance as Tiger did. Same goes for Bolt.
