Girlfriend's son (about 27-28 years old) now has it. Their 3 kids (1, 5 & 6) are also getting sick and his wife has been sent home from her job for a 14 day quarantine. My girlfriend was babysitting the grand kids until as recent as last Thursday or Friday so I hope I don't get this shit.

Apparently her son's condition has worsened but the doctor told them don't come in unless it's urgent.

The owner of the company he works for, some 80 year old fuck, was continuing to have them work even after two of their sales people and another factory worker were exposed to it, but that old fucker sure as Hell wasn't coming into the office while he directed orders to "keep working" from the safety of his home.

Is hope not also important?  It sounds like had Trump not said that, some doctors and patients wouldn't have been aware of the potential, and some of those patients believe they would have otherwise died.

I had 0 problem with what Trump said about the possible treatment.  He said it was not approved, but he was making it available for "comfort cases", meaning as a last resort.  The media, in its rush to smear all things Trump, omitted and distorted key aspects of those statements to make him look irresponsible.

Update.

HR received so many complaints about losing our insurance and benefits they decided to throw us 10 “free” paid hours this week and next to get us to the 30 hour minimum. We work 20, get paid for 30. So we will have coverage through the end of April. It was a pleasant surprise.

Went to 4 stores this afternoon....First two had no toilet paper.  Third only had single rolls (limit 1).  Went to a fourth where I snagged 9 rolls 2 weeks ago, and they had several brands with several packs of 9 rolls!  Not my preferred brand, but it's far from the worst stuff.

I just don't understand the freaking out about toilet paper, of all the essential things out there.  Why are people buying it and hoarding it?  What is the fucking point, besides "winning"?

It becomes self-fulfilling.  If you've been looking for TP for 1.5-2 weeks, and then you find some you'd probably be tempted to grab 1 month's supply or more.  And then the people that hoarded 1+ months a few weeks ago are going to be worrying about re-stocking over the next week or so.

If the supply chain is set-up for people to hold 2 weeks of supply, but then a bunch of people start hoarding 2+ months....well then 1 family holding 4X their normal need means 4 families can't get any.

And in reality, it's not going to come to that. Groceries will stay open regardless of the length of the quarantine stuff. The TP hoarding was really bizarre.

People are idiots.
I stopped at Meijer today. It was actually very tame, hardly crowded at all. But huge chunks of the store were completely picked over. Juice, frozen aisles, toilet paper, soap.

True, but if there was a real outbreak with something that had a 10% or even 5% mortality rate....you could see a pretty rapid breakdown of all essential services.  People too sick, or too afraid, to go to work...or dead.  It really is sort of a wake-up call.

I'm not making fun of preppers any more, let's put it that way.  This is the 3rd deadly coronavirus to jump from animals in the last 15 years.  While this is the only one to be widely spread [an understatement], those odds aren't looking too good for something really, really nasty to hit within the next few decades.  Not to mention we've also had EBOLA, swine flu and bird flu in the last 20 years.  I hate to say it, but this could be the 6.0 quake, before the really big 9.0 hits....

Yeah....not a person that feels need to be the guy from the movie Tremors but after this, I will make a stockpile of ammo and extra arrows for the bow.

Which in my mind shows why we need to stop tying healthcare to employment

Things must be bad in India. I have had zero telemarketing call since last Friday.

Order to stay at home, no exceptions, (I believe), for 21 days.  1.6 billion people.

By tomorrow they will figure out how to call you though.  :)
