And all of this "free" college tuition he plans on giving away? With the taxes he's looking to impose, who is going to WANT to work? His numbers don't add up but fools are buying into it because it's "new", "fresh" and "edgy." He's their "bro!"

I've stated this many, many times.  The equivalent to our FICA in Europe averages 50% higher.  That's 7% off the top of your paycheck right there (because, yes, companies are going to pass that tax on to you LOL).  Then you have to deal with a VAT that's at least 20%...on almost everything you buy.  And, of course, higher marginal tax rates, as well.  But don't forget about the real kick in the nuts - higher unemployment and slower growth.

A LOT of Bernie Bros are going to be outraged wondering what happened to all the rich people that were going to pay for the "free" shit.

The implicit "deal" offered by socialism is everyone above the average income (just over $50k in the US) is going to be a net loser giving some of theirs to people below the average.  I'm willing to bet a large percentage of pro-socialism voters in the US incorrectly believe they will either benefit, or that someone else will pay for it.

What percentage would you estimate a company and a person are paying for healthcare to Blue Cross right now.. say they're making $50k a year?

Bernie is a one term president who will get nothing done.  It will be 4 years of him yelling at everyone.

I'll do mine real quick since I have access to the numbers. Between what my company pays and what I pay Blue Cross a year is about 20% of my salary. And that's not counting all the extras right? That's not counting the deductible. That's not counting the 20% after deductible... that's just counting the premium.

So I'm not sure why you act like it's some great number we're currently paying right now.

What kills me on this message board is that people are so emphatic about why they think Bernie is a liar or fraud or whatever, yet are completely blind to these very same qualities in Trump.

Making broad statements that Bernie voters are "stupid" is a terrible tactic as it is easy to find plenty of examples of unintelligent, uninformed Trump voters. That accomplishes nothing.

There are plenty of Trumps supporters who are dolts but anyone who thinks that Bernie's policies are smart or feasible is far from the brightest Crayon in the box. It's like someone selling you swampland in Florida or a piece of the Brooklyn Bridge. His economic proposals are a fairytale.

Neither SS nor Medicare are broke. That is part of the typical scare tactic references above. Just because you guys want to repeat that mantra over and over doesn't make it true.

If they had to do the accounting for SS and Medicare that private employers have to do for retirement plans they would show an under-funding into the tens of trillions of dollars.  Because they do not, they fool a lot of people into thinking everything is just fine, but it is not.  At best, the money needed for payouts will come from the printing presses which will erode purchasing power by massive ratios.  It is a scam at this stage of the game; little more than legalized theft from the productive members of society and their heirs.

LOL. Same could be said of Trump.

Also, yes I know he had the tax cut, but Bernie may also get one thing through Congress, but like Trump will do a lot of Executive Orders to sound like he did shit.

When you make cuts to it, that tends to happen.

There have been no cuts, but there was a huge, unwarranted expansion of SS disability benefits under obama, costing untold billions and billions.

I have a friend, a fellow AnCap, who decided to use Facebook to dig into this.  He specifically targeted the groups "Bernie Sanders is going to Win, President 2020" and "PRESIDENT TRUMP FOR AMERICA 2020."

Generally, both groups had plenty of members with the functional intelligence of two inbreds in a doorknob-humping contest, but he did say that the 'Bernie Bros' tended to be more cordial and willing to engage in semi-rational discussion.  The 'Trumpets' tended to sound mostly like bumper stickers.

That's an apples to oranges comparison. A retirement account with a private employer is a savings account where the funds put aside by you and your employer are used by you when you retire. SS was not set up that way. It was always a program whereby contributions by today's employees pay today's retirees. In the past when contributions totalled more than required payouts, the excess was put into a trust fund. Now that baby boomers are retiring and more money is required for payouts than is coming into the system from employee contributions, the fund is drawn from to bridge the difference. The GAO show the fund will be depleted by 2035. If current contribution rates stay the same, that will result in a 25% shortfall. This will have to be dealt with by either a 1/4 cut in individual benefits or an increase in contributions. Neither of those options are ideal, but regardless, the program isn't broke, broken or on the verge of collapse. That is simply not true.

I think this sums up most of my "interest" in all this shit -- the utter hilarity of watching diehards on one side act just like the diehards on the other side while being completely oblivious to that fact.

All you have to do is look at the OUTRAGED PROGRESSIVE voices that are the loudest on social media and then go back to this site's archive, read Obama admin threads and immediately notice that Quaker and a few of our former posters behaved the exact same with their constant "THE SKY IS FALLING!!!!" whining, with the only difference being what team they're supporting. With a lot of it, like the frequent "LOOK AT HOW MUCH GOLF HE PLAYS ON THE JOB!!!!!!" posts, looking even more hilarious now than they did at the time.

In a way, it's fascinating to see politics turn into sports, with fanatics constantly acting under the pretense that anything their team does is cool, but if the other team does it, it's horrible. In another way, it's pretty troubling how stupid many, many, many people are if the only way they can comprehend politics is through the "our team vs. our arch-rivals" philosophy.

I love when Bernie uses the word "modest" tax on Wall St. speculation.

Unreal that he uses the vague words and nobody calls him out on it.
