If the reports are true (Trump said it, so maybe), the U.S. is pulling out of the INF Treaty because Russia is in breach of it.
Pulling out of the INF Treaty makes no sense. It would just give Russia free reign to deploy all those missiles in eastern Europe against our allies. It also is dumb policy. Why reward someone from cheating by eliminating the whole agreement?
Russia is in violation, sure, but that should be dealt within the measures of the treaty. As far as it is being reported, the U.S. has not made a sustained effort to rectify those disagreements.
Killing it does nothing but hurt our eastern European allies. The U.S. wouldn't even deploy any of the system banned in the treaty, Russia would, so the U.S. does not gain anything by eliminating the treaty. What national interest is being protected by killing the treaty? We are just saying to Russia, here deploys all these missiles that were banned in eastern Europe now.
And, this is the crowning jewel of the Reagan Cold War doctrine....
