When a D is in zone, there isn’t a primary defender....so there could never be a charge in your scenario?

You said off ball charges, not secondary defender.  Now you're starting to make a little more sense.  So sticking with verticality... if the defender goes straight up, just play on?  If the defender gains LGP, but does not jump, just play on?  Or must a defender jump in order to not get a block called?

I said off ball charges because I was harking back to the discussion from last season. Secondary defender is what I’ve meant the whole time. As for play on...I think a defender has to jump and contest. I think if they are set and go straight up, it’s the best defense you can play. It isn’t as dangerous, makes it very tough to finish over, and simplifies the rules for players/coaches/officials...and fans lol.

Now we are getting into some good discussion! That does make it a more complicated rule, I guess I’d say yes, no charges. I also think it would work itself out, as players adjusted to verticality jumping. Personally, I think it’s a more effective way to stop a player anyway.

And since I specify earlier I don’t think, I am speaking strictly on if a player dribbling goes up for a shot. So in the zone, a defender could establish “on ball” position and take a charge on the drive before they get to a point to jump.

I don’t think I saw a lottery pick out there, aside from Maxey who would be 10-15 range. Can’t remember the last time that happened with those 4.
