The greeting card racket

I just got my yearly reminder of how big of a ripoff greeting cards are. I saw a large selection of Mother's Day cards that were $7.95-9.95, which I find absurd. Luckily I found some decent cards in the $3-5 range and walked out for less than $14 for 3 cards.

How much did your Mother's Day card purchases set you back this year?

I truly hate them and have almost completely went away from them....but Mother’s Day and my mom’s birthday are the two that still get cards.

They are terribly written and just not good.

$15 with a $2 coupon.  I mostly refuse to buy cards for this reason, or only buy the 99 cent ones usually

I don't usually buy my mom a card. I get her a nice gift, though.

I don't mind spending money on cards as long as they are fun and unique. I buy a lot of mine on Etsy, and I really like Tay Ham.

This will be the first year I am not buying my mother a card and gift ......difficult, but the day will be full of good reminiscences.

I just buy flowers and have them sent since I don't live close to my mom. Can't remember the last time I bought a card that wasn't for a wedding.

A phone call, which she'll forget about two minutes later.

I'm taking my mom to a Reds game the following weekend, but I still felt like I had to send her a card.

Fuck cards. I will get the cheapest card possible, damn near always. $5+ card gets put back 100% of the time.

Mine was about $9, but my mom liked it, so I didn't have any issue paying a bit.

Yep. It was one of those that plays a little song when you open it. She thought it was cute and liked it; money worth spending as far as I'm concerned between that and the flowers.

Probably could have bought her the song on iTunes for $1.29.

Get off my lawn.

It IS a racket, but I had bought my wife a pot of pretty pinkish flowers, and there was a $7 card with a picture that matched the flowers exactly, and she really liked that.

You know what they say.  Happy wife - happy wife.
